(Scroll down for video) A nurse was fired after he was found passed out at a hospital while wearing lipstick.
The nurse of New Mexico, was found unconscious in the bathroom of the hospital with a needle in his arm, Santa Fe Police said.
James Hoffman, 51, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Hoffman was found on Monday morning, after a security guard heard snoring coming from a bathroom in the emergency room at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center.
Hoffman was unconscious and had lipstick on his face. He had a syringe hanging from his arm. The nurse was supposed to be on duty at the hospital. He was taken to a treatment room for observation, police said.
Hoffman was arrested when was discharged from the hospital the next day.
Hoffman had morphine, ketamine and lorazepam in the bathroom with him, police said. However, none of these medications were prescribed to the patients in his care.
Police are investigating whether Hoffman took the drugs found on him from the hospital, which could result in theft charges.
Hospital staff said that they were concerned that Hoffman may have improperly treated a patient after a bottle of ketamine was found in the patient’s room even though he had no prescription for it.
Hoffman was fired from his job and is being held at the Santa Fe County jail.
