Six children were rescued by police after their mother abandoned them.

The 43-year-old pregnant mother of 6 children in the United Kingdom, told her son that she was going to an Asda supermarket.

However, she never returned home because she actually flew to Australia, to meet a man she met on the Internet.

The woman left her 14-year-old son to care for his five younger siblings. The youngest is only 3 years old. The mother planned a six-week long vacation with her new lover.

Once she secretly boarded a flight from Heathrow Airport for Sydney, the woman sent a text message to her son, claiming that she would back the following day, but never came home.

The police were alerted when the teen called his grandparents to complain that he was hungry, and they called police.

Officers discovered that the six children living in a “warm but dirty” house in Birmingham. The children were placed in emergency foster care.

Prosecutor Patrick Sullivan said that the mother, who is a single parent, ignored messages from her parents and the police. She deactivated her social media accounts and refused to fly home until her scheduled return date.

When the mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, finally returned home, she was arrested. She pleaded guilty at the Birmingham Crown Court to six counts of willful abandonment of her children.

She was handed a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years. The children now live with their grandparents.
