A man told police that he left the scene of an accident because he was afraid of his angry girlfriend’s response, police in New Jersey said.
Vineland Police said that 21-year-old David Scarpa, was having an argument with his girlfriend on Sunday night, when he backed into a utility pole in the county of Cumberland.
The caller who reported the hit-and-run said that he heard people screaming, heard an explosion and saw debris on the floor next to the pole.
The incident unfolded at the Iris and Clover avenues around 11:00 p.m.
Scarpa then took off and did not report the accident. Scarpa however, went to police headquarters to surrender on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
Scarpa of the 700 block of Strawberry Avenue, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
