A woman of South Carolina, was arrested after she walked up to a 5-month-old baby and punched him in the face.
The mother was shocked when a 59-year-old woman came up to her and hit her baby in the face at a restaurant in Folly Beach, Charleston County, on Saturday.
Barbara Green, 59, of Riverland, told police that she thought that the 5-month-old child was a doll and that she was joking, according to the incident report.
She was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and disorderly conduct. Green was booked into the Charleston County jail and was released after posting $25,262 bail.
The baby’s mother, Amber Fortson, said that her family was having a great time at the restaurant. The baby stood on the lap of his father “laughing, smiling and dancing to the music when a woman, who they had never seen before, approached, punched the baby in the face and walked toward the door,” Fortson said.
The boy’s father followed Green to the door, but could not get her to talk. He wanted an explanation for her actions.
The restaurant staff stepped in and stopped the woman from leaving until police arrived.
An officer noted that the baby’s nose was red. The couple said that Green showed no remorse and did not even apologize for punching the innocent baby.
