(Scroll down for video) A father is devastated over the loss of his beloved fiancee.

His baby, who was born premature, is fighting for his life after his mother was struck and killed outside a drug store in Pennsylvania.

Jodie Guthrie, 30, of Pittsburgh, was sitting on a bench outside a Rite Aid pharmacy when she was hit by an elderly driver with Alzheimer’s, who was trying to park his minivan, police said.

The elderly man jumped the curb and pinned the mother to be to the wall, killing her. Guthrie was only two weeks away from her due date when she was struck in broad daylight.

Police said that the 88-year-old driver probably stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake while maneuvering the vehicle.

Guthrie was hit around 3:45 p.m., and died at a hospital. Her baby, named Trace Joseph, was delivered by emergency Caesarean. The newborn child is in stable but critical condition in a neonatal unit.

The devastated father, George Weatherwalk, said that he got a call from the hospital and was asked: “do you want the good news or the bad news first?” He was then told that his baby survived, but his fiancee was gone.

The granddaughter of Allan Massie, the man who killed Guthrie, said that Massie has Alzheimer’s. “I do not think he will remember what happened today,” she said.

Police will look at surveillance video to try to determine why Massie drove up the sidewalk and struck the heavily pregnant Guthrie.

So far, police call it an accident and no charges were filed against the old man.
