A woman was arrested, charged and convicted of fraud after using her friend’s baby to get her former boyfriend to pay child support, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

Now, the 25-year-old former healthcare worker who was jailed last month after convincing her former boyfriend that a child she was babysitting was his son, has been released from prison.

Charmaine Leigh Wilson had been sentenced to 4 months in jail.

However, during a hearing at the Cardiff Crown Court on Monday, Judge David Wynn Morgan decided that her sentence should be suspended in order for her to better understand the impact of her crime.

Wilson of Garfield Avenue in Bridgend, forged a birth certificate and the results of DNA tests to convince Liam Griffiths that he was the father of her child when the baby actually belonged to her friend.

Wilson was sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to two counts of making a false document. According to the police investigation, Wilson met Liam Griffiths one night and offered her a ride home.

The two had sex.

Wilson terminated a pregnancy after the one-night stand, but became obsessed with Griffiths and began to bombard him with messages.

Later, she produced a child and told Griffiths’ father that the boy is his grandson. Wilson created a fake birth certificate and forged the results of a DNA test to convince Griffiths that he is the father of the boy.

The fraud came to light after Griffiths published a photo of the child on Facebook, where a friend asked: “What are you doing with my cousin?”

Wilson was sentenced to 32 weeks in prison, suspended for 24 months, with a supervision order for 24 months. She was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
