A man was arrested after having sex with a dog in public.

Hakan Yucel, 45, was seen on surveillance video walking up to the black and white dog on a street in Istanbul, Turkey, before dropping his pants and having sex with the dog.

The dog, Nilayim, walked away from its owner’s garden and Yucel, who was allegedly drunk at the time, found it roaming the streets.

Murat Safak, 33, and his girlfriend heard noise and then spotted Yucel holding the dog by the back of its neck and raping it.

Safak said that he screamed and started running toward Yucel. However, Yucel ran away before being detained.
Police were given the surveillance video and identified the suspect.

They tracked down Yucel, but he initially denied the accusations. However, he was forced to confess after seeing the video of the abuse.

Despite the shocking nature of his act, it seemed like Yucel would avoid charges since there are no laws against animal cruelty in the country.

Activists fought to have the 45-year-old man arrested on charges of damaging property as the dog was owned by someone and was not a stray.

Under the law, killing or torturing animals is usually treated as a misdemeanor and therefore not punishable by prison.

The lawyer of the dog owner, Yasemin Babayigit, said: “Yucel was charged with lewd behavior and property damage. I am delighted that we have managed to turn this into a criminal case, although it is sad that the animals are protected in terms of whether they have an owner or not.”

Yucel now faces up to four years in prison.
