A woman was caught eating her baby’s arm at a hospital.

Now, the mother has been accused of cannibalism after she was found biting both hands of her newborn baby.

The woman of Shenzhen, China, who was identified as 24-year-old Li Zhenghua, was found trying to eat the child while in the hospital after giving birth.

A nurse spotted the woman with the teeth closed around her baby’s hand and called for help. Someone took photos of the baby’s injuries and uploaded it to the Internet.

The nurse named Liu Tianlun, attempted to force the woman off the baby, but the mother refused to let go of her son’s arm.

A hospital spokesperson said: “It was really shocking. The baby’s arm was badly injured. He not only suffered heavy bruising, but also bleeding as a result of the bites.”

Doctors were able to place something in the woman’s mouth and then pried her jaws apart. She was then given a sedative and took the baby to safety.

The mother has reportedly been living on the street after being thrown out of her mother-in-law’s home, where she lived, despite the fact that she was pregnant.

She is believed to have been surviving on the streets for several weeks, before going into labor.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident and social workers will decided whether it is safe to return the baby to the woman.
