(Scroll down for video) A family in New York, is distraught over the loss of their beloved father, who was known for helping people.
The married man and father of two girls of Long Island, was collecting food for a soup kitchen when he was killed when a car thief stole his vehicle outside a convenience store and ran him over, police said.
69-year-old Dionel Ramirez parked his car outside a 7-Eleven on Pine Aire Drive in North Bay Shore around 5:45 a.m. on Friday.
7-Eleven gives Ramirez their excess food to give to the homeless. As he ran inside the store, Ramirez left the car running with the door open, police said.
A man jumped into the car and started to drive away. When Ramirez tried to block the man, the thief ran him over, police said. Ramirez was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His car was later found abandoned, and the thief was nowhere to be found. Investigators are still looking for the suspect.
