A teacher was arrested, charged and convicted of sexual assault after sexually assaulting a student at his school, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

Now, the teaching assistant who pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a 14-year-old schoolgirl, was sentenced to 18 months in prison at the Isleworth Crown Court.

28-year-old Kevin Sempers, a learning support assistant in Ferndale Crescent, Uxbridge, was employed at the Uxbridge High School, when police received an allegation of sexual activity with a student.

He was arrested at the school later that day. Sempers was also an athlete who competed in the Commonwealth games.

The relationship, which included kissing and sexually touching the girl, began after the schoolgirl contacted Sempers on his Facebook account.

The offenses took place outside of the school and not during school hours.

Detective Constable Andrea Lenihan from the Met’s Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Investigation Team said: “Sempers seriously abused his position of trust. As a teaching assistant and an athlete he should have been setting his students a good example rather than taking advantage of their vulnerability. His action will have a devastating impact on his career.”
