A man was arrested on charges of attempted murder after allegedly poisoning the wife of a court clerk, police in Nigeria said.
Ilorin Police arrested Emmanuel Igbuku for poisoning the rice of Yetunde Apalando.
Her husband, Kayode Apalando, works as a court clerk. The suspect was charged with one count of attempted culpable homicide.
According to the police investigation, Apalando was cooking rice when the suspect snuck into the kitchen and poured insecticide into the pot.
When Apalando tasted the food, she fell unconscious and was rushed to a hospital, where she was in a coma for 10 hours.
Luckily, doctors were able to save her life.
Detectives determined that Igbuku, intended to kill the woman. Igbuku however, told the Ilorin Magistrate’s Court, that he did not intend to poison the woman.
The defendant was remanded into custody after being denied bail.
