A man was arrested, charged and convicted of armed robbery after stealing jewelry from his brother’s home, prosecutors in Nigeria said.
Now, the Maiduguri High Court sentenced the man to 10 years in prison for conspiracy and theft.
The court also sentenced the man’s partner in crime, Hamisu Haruna, to six months in prison.
According to the police investigation, Kyari Bukar of Ngomari, Maiduguri, armed himself with weapons including knives, machetes and bats, and broke into the house of Hauwa Bukar.
Bukar and his partner stole necklaces, four mobile phones, gold earrings and a DVD player, valued at N173,000 ($939).
Bukar received a harsher sentence because he was also accused of attempting to rape a woman at his brother’s home during the robbery.
