A cyclist was arrested, charged and convicted of assault after beating up a bus driver because he honked at him for blocking the road, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.
Now, 26-year-old Lyon McClean of Furley House, Haymerle Road, SE15, was sentenced to one year in prison at the Woolwich Crown Court.
He was found guilty of actual bodily harm, prosecutors said. The incident occurred on a route 343 bus traveling on Peckham High Street about 3:30 p.m.
The incident occurred after McClean, who was stationary on his bicycle at a bus stop speaking to friends, became aggressive after the driver beeped his horn in order for him to move as he was obstructing the bus.
McLean approached the bus and opened up the front door by using the emergency handle from outside. He opened the driver’s cab door, pulling him out onto the pavement before attacking him.
Police were called by members of the public, and McLean fled from the scene. However, he returned and was arrested.
The 43-year-old driver was left with head injuries, and was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he received treatment.
