(Scroll down for video) A mother was arrested after being found drunk while her young children were neglected.
Vicki Johnson, 41, of Kentucky, was arrested approximately 2:15 a.m., after deputies were dispatched to her home as part of a welfare check.
Deputies were advised that the mother was highly intoxicated and was caring for two young children.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the mother’s breath.
Deputies determined that she was under the influence. She stated that she had taken hydrocodone and had been drinking throughout the day.
Deputies also learned that prior to their arrival, she had driven from a friend’s house, where she had gotten drunk.
Deputies noted the interior of the house was cluttered with trash and cigarette butts.
In addition, there was no food in the residence for the children. They also found a six-year-old child sleeping on a hard box spring mattress with several pill bottles in arm’s reach of the child. The child was suffering from head lice.
A 10-month-old infant was located in a mobile baby crib with a bottle containing spoiled milk and the child was wearing a soiled diaper that had not been changed for a long period.
Vicki Johnson was charged with wanton endangerment in the second-degree and criminal abuse of children under the age of 12 in the third-degree.
She was booked in the Laurel County Detention Center. The children were removed from the residence by social services.
