(Scroll down for video) A 1,000-pound cow managed to escape from being slaughtered, but was killed after trying to escape from a police pursuit.

The cow that was being prepared for slaughter, jumped a 6-foot tall fence and ran through the streets of Pocatello, Idaho, about 1:30 p.m.

The cow led police through a residential neighborhood in the north side of the city. The cow crashed into an animal control truck and two police cars before it was shot.

Pocatello Police Chief Scott Marchand said that officers fired two shots at the cow as it was a security risk.

After the first shot, the animal became more aggressive and kept running. Officers fired another shot, which killed the animal instantly.

Police said that the cow had escaped from Anderson Custom Pack, a meat processing business, on Friday.
