An old man in Italy, became extremely angry after being slapped with a fine for crossing a street at a slow pace.

The 85-year-old unidentified man, who walks with a slight limp, was crossing a street in Pinerolo, when he was detained by officers because he was still in the middle of the road when the green light changed to red.

Local residents reported that they have filed repeated complaints about the traffic lights because they do not give much time for slow walkers to cross the streets.

The elderly man was given a €41 ($51) fine, which he immediately paid in order to have it reduced to just $36. After public outrage, the mayor of the city, Eugenio Buttiero, said that he personally reimbursed the man.

However, the head of the local police, Ermenegilda Aloi, said that the officer acted according to protocol. “In our records, there is no doubt that the man crossed when the light was red,” he said.
