(Scroll down for video) A couple was arrested on charges of child abuse after allegedly forcing their boy to sleep in a backyard for 6 weeks, police in Arizona said.
When the couple was questioned by the Chandler Police Department, they complained that the boy was not showing respect.
The 16-year-old boy told investigators that he was kicked out of the home and had to spend 6 weeks outside even when it rained and during dust storms.
The boy also said that he had to use the backyard as a toilet. The incident came to light when the boy left the backyard and went to the house of his uncle.
The uncle called police to report the abuse.
The child’s father, 44-year-old Brian Romine, told police that his son tapered with containers containing cake toppings, which were stored in the home.
The son denied the allegations. The boy said that his father gave him a sleeping bag and a pillow, and told him to sleep on lawn chair in the backyard.
The boy’s stepmother, 45-year-old Shelly Romine, said that the teen constantly lies and has behavioral issues. The mother admitted to taking a lot of drugs to deal with her son’s issues.
The state took custody of the child. The parents were booked into jail on charges of child abuse.
