A young man was arrested, charged and convicted of theft after being accused of stealing a goat, prosecutors in Nigeria said.
Now, 20-year-old Joshua Musa of Aku, Mararaba, has been sentenced to serve 12 weeks in jail.
Musa was charged with trespassing and theft, and he pleaded guilty to the charges as part of a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors.
The judge who sentenced Musa, gave the defendant an option of a N10,000 ($53) fine instead of serving his jail sentence. The judge also ordered the defendant to pay the victim, Stephen Alune, N10,000 ($53) in compensation.
Alune told investigators that Musa, broke into his house while he was away and stole the goat.
In August, a man who was in the mood for some meat, was caught on surveillance cameras stealing a huge cow by stuffing it into a small car.
A video shows the single cow minding its own business in a driveway.
A small white four-door car pulls up next to the cow. A man comes out, opens the back door of the vehicle and approaches the cow.
He pushes the cow into the back seat. Somehow, the thief manages to push the whole big cow into the car before shutting the door.
The thief gets back into the driver’s seat and drives away with his loot. The video appears to have been recorded in Russia. Some people questioned the thief why he used such a small car to steal the cow.
