(Scroll down for video) A 14-year-old boy is being investigated after police said he shot and killed an intruder.

The teenager was home alone with his grandmother, when they heard glass breaking in the home on Tuesday night.

The 14-year-old boy of Charlotte, North Carolina, grabbed a gun and ordered the intruder to leave, but when he continued climbing through the window the teen shot him.

The grandmother, Anna Marie Wyant, 73, called police about 5:15 p.m. to report the incident. Wyant told the dispatcher that the getaway driver fled in a grey vehicle after the shooting.

When police arrived, the intruder, 18-year-old Isai Robert Delcid, was already dead. His brother, 22-year-old Carlos Delcid, who was the getaway driver, was arrested and charged with first degree burglary.

The grandfather, George Wyant, said that this was not the first time the family had been victimized by the brothers.

Carlos Delcid was once at the home to repair an air condition, and was accused of stealing prescription pills.

George Wyant also said that he taught the boy how to use a gun after the child’s father, Greg Hernandez, 35, was gunned down in his auto body repair shop in 2008.

The 14-year-old boy, who has not been identified, is believed to have acted in self-defense and has not been charged with a crime.
