A mother was devastated when her son went missing after she left him home alone.

The 18-month-old boy died after walking out in the cold trying to find his mother in the small village of Sosnovka, Russia.

The weather was 10 degrees below zero when the boy went outside alone in search for his mother.

Marina Yefimova, 29, put her son Gleb to bed before going out to see some friends. During the time she was away, little Gleb managed to open the door, which had been left unlocked.

Then he went outside to try to find his mother, but succumbed to the freezing conditions.

His body was found several hours later by his distraught mother after she returned home.

A spokesperson for the hospital said that the mother was very distraught when she brought her child into the hospital.

“We did everything we could to try to revive the child, but in these temperatures he had no chance. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do,” the spokesperson said.

The mother is facing charges of negligence after admitting to leaving her baby home alone.

The boy’s devastated father, Tikhon Yefimova, 33, who was away on a business trip at the time, said: “I can’t believe that this happened. She is a good mother and a good wife. The matter is completely incomprehensible.”
