(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested after he violently shook a baby until his eyes detached.

The man of Kingsport, Tennessee, was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse after allegedly shaking the child, who suffered severe brain damage and detached retinas.

James R. Casteel, 25, was living alone with the baby in a storage unit behind a home on Riverside Avenue, while the baby’s mother was in jail.

Police said that Casteel, is one of three men who may be the father of the baby. A paternity test is pending.

Casteel lived with the 6-month-old boy in the shed, which has no running water, according to a police press release. Casteel and the child had been living in the shed for about two weeks, before he injured the baby.

When Casteel’s mother came to the shed and found the baby unresponsive, she called police. The baby was taken to a local hospital, where she is being treated.

The baby’s mother, Amber Keys, who was in jail at the time, has since been released so she can be at her baby’s side.

The judge gave the mother two undisclosed conditions for her release, but she soon violated both of those conditions and was returned to jail.
