(Scroll down for video) Police in Chattanooga, Tennessee, are frustrated that they did not do more to protect elderly women in their community from a rapist.
Derrick Dewayne Caldwell, 30, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated robbery after raping two women just one day after he was released from jail.
Caldwell was first arrested by police in Red Bank, after he was spotted looking into the home of an elderly woman. He was charged with trespassing.
A neighbor called police, and Caldwell was caught behind the woman’s house. The neighbor told police it was the second time he saw “the same black male” on the woman’s property.
The victim is a 50-year-old woman, who lives alone in the residence. She told police that she did not know Caldwell.
Caldwell was arrested and charged with trespassing. He pleaded guilty to the charges. He was sentenced to time served and was released.
The next day, a 60-year-old woman told police that a man broke into her home and raped her.
She describes her attacker as a black man with braids, wearing black pants, a black jacket, and orange jail socks.
The suspect entered her home by breaking a glass window and opened the door. The suspect was cut in the process and left blood at the scene.
Just one day later, a second woman alleged that she was raped by the same man. The victim, a 60-year-old woman, gave a description of the man who raped her, and it matched Caldwell.
The victim said the man broke into her home and told her he had a knife. Two days later, police arrested Caldwell for the second time. He is being held on $450,000 bond.
