(Scroll down for video) A teenager in New York, was arrested and charged with the murder of her 5-year-old cousin.

Tiffany VanAlstyne, 19, claimed that two masked men broke into her trailer, threw her to the ground and snatched 5-years-old Kenneth White.

Police launched a manhunt for the boy and the kidnappers, but later found the boy’s body in a pile of snow behind teen’s home, Albany County sheriff Craig Apple said.

Tiffany VanAlstyne was babysitting the boy at the time of his death. She was charged with murder after police found that the child had been strangled.

Police said that the teen killed the boy and then called her mother Brenda VanAlstyne, saying that two men kidnapped him.

Her mother then called police and relayed the story along with a description of the suspects and the getaway car.

Tiffany VanAlstyne was charged with second-degree murder, and was arraigned at the Knox Town Court, where she pleaded not guilty. She was sent to the Albany County Jail, where she is being held without bail.

In court, Brenda VanAlystne cried while her daughter was being arraigned for murder. When asked if the teen took any medication the mother revealed that her daughter has bipolar disorder.

Brenda VanAlystne also said that Tiffany always took care of the victim. She bought gifts for him and she loved him very much.

Kenneth White had been living with Brenda VanAlstyne, who is his legal guardian. The boy’s mother lives in Amsterdam, New York, and his father lives in Massachusetts.

Police originally thought that the kidnapping might have had something to do with the ongoing child custody case between the parents.

Authorities are now investigating Brenda VanAlstyne, after her trailer was found to be an “unsafe environment” for children. The 5-year-old boy lived with Brenda VanAlstyne, her twin sister and a 4-year-old child for about one year.

May he rest in peace.
