A police sergeant was arrested, charged and convicted of sexual assault after raping several children, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.
The former police sergeant of Cambridgeshire, pleaded guilty to a number of serious sexual offenses before being sentenced to serve 14 years in jail.
54-year-old Nick Lidstone pleaded guilty to 13 offenses at the Norwich Crown Court.
Lidstone pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by penetration, one count of sexual assault, one count of indecent assault and one count of taking indecent photographs of a child.
Lidstone was fired from the police department for gross misconduct. However, child advocates are shocked that the defendant wasn’t fired when officials learned about the allegations.
This was not the first time that Lidstone was accused with sexual assault. The court heard that Lidstone caught taking indecent images of children with a spy camera at a Tesco store in Royston, Hertfordshire.
He was given a conditional discharge after pleading guilty to a minor crime. He was not included on the sex offender registry because he was not charged with a sexual offense.
He was allowed to keep his job because he agreed to counseling. Lidstone went on to rape several children.
