(Scroll down for video) A mother was arrested, charged and convicted of willful cruelty to a child after leaving her daughter in an overturned baby carriage on the street, prosecutors in California said.
Now, the woman of Tehachapi, was sentenced at the Kern County Superior Court to serve two years in prison.
She was also stripped of her parental rights to the child. 34-year-old Stacey Nikkel was convicted by a jury of one count of willful cruelty to a child.
She served about six months in jail awaiting trial and received six months credit for good behavior. If she continues to work and maintain her good behavior, she will be released from state prison in about five months.
According to the police investigation, Nikkel left her 2-year-old daughter alone in a field. The child was found in an overturned carriage by a woman who was on her way to church.
Nikkel tested positive at the time of a mixture of drugs and alcohol. Nikkel’s daughter is under the care of foster parents.
