Turkey is stepping up efforts to ban birth control from the country.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described efforts to promote birth control as treason, saying that contraception will cause a generation to “dry up.”
Erdogan made the comments on Sunday, during the wedding of his close friend.
Erdogan told the newlyweds that birth control use was a betrayal of the country’s ambition to become a prosperous nation with a young and growing population.
Having just one or two children, is not enough, and to make the nation stronger, the country needs a young population, Erdogan said.
He also blamed enemies for trying to get the population on birth control in order to destroy the country.
Erdogan he recently said that every woman should have at least three children, and he also said that women are not equal to men.
Erdogan made proposals to limit the right to abortion, the morning after pill and cesarean sections.
