An elderly woman is lucky to be alive after being shot by her husband in the neck, police in Ohio said.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office said that they received a call about a woman who had been shot in the neck by accident.

Officers who arrived at the scene on Branch Road, found 75-year-old Charlene Ross, suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

She was treated and transported to a hospital while alert and conscious. At the hospital, doctors discovered that the woman was suffering from arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat.

The woman, who has had no history of heart disease, recently been experiencing chest pains, which doctors later diagnosed as arrhythmia.

She has been fitted with a pacemaker.

The woman’s husband, 77-year-old Boyd Ross, told police that he went to the closet to get a shotgun to scare geese away from a nearby pond.

He checked to see if the gun was loaded and fired. The round went through the closet wall into the back of a reclining chair and into his wife.

Charlene Ross is in serious condition. No charges have been filed at this time, pending the outcome of the investigation.
