A police officer suffered serious injuries after being hit by a driver who was texting while driving, police in Oregon said.
Eugene Police said that the incident unfolded when an officer who is assigned to the motorcycle unit, pulled over a driver for texting while driving on Tuesday morning.
Another driver, who allegedly has been texting while driving, hit the officer from behind. 41-year-old Barry Rager, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield, with injuries, but is in stable condition.
According to the police investigation, Rager pulled over the first driver on Interstate 105 at 9:45 a.m. As the officer was making contact with the driver, another vehicle slammed into the officer’s bike.
The second vehicle was driven by 55-year-old Steven Neer of Aurora. No charges have been filed against Neer.
