(Scroll down for video) A mother was shot and killed while shopping with 4 children.
The incident took place at a Walmart in Hayden, Idaho.
The woman was visiting family in the area and decided to take her son and three young children, who are family members, to Walmart.
Around 11:15 a.m., police were called to the scene after the woman was shot by her son.
Police said that 29-year-old Veronica Jean Rutledge, was shopping with the four children when her son reached into her purse, took out her gun and pulled the trigger.
According to Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, the bullet killed the mother. Deputies said that the boy who accidentally fired the gun, is about 2 years old.
Kootenai County Sheriff’s spokesperson Stu Miller said that the young boy was left in a shopping cart when he reached into his mother’s purse and grabbed the handgun, which discharged one time.
The woman and children were in the back of the store near the electronics when the shooting took place. Video surveillance at the store along with eyewitness testimony helped deputies determine that it was an accident.
Authorities said that the mother had a permit to carry a concealed weapon. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
