A woman was arrested, charged and convicted of murder after being accused of killing an elderly Jewish woman, according to court proceedings in Israel.
The Tel Aviv District Attorney’s Office said that a woman, who was born in Tel-Aviv Yafo, and is married to a Palestinian man from the Palestinian controlled West Bank city of Qalqilya, was convicted of killing 75-year-old Shoshana Levi. The defendant and the victim lived in the same building.
Tel Aviv Police said that the woman, 24, and her husband, 25, broke into Levi’s apartment, threw her to the ground, dragged her into another room and stuffed her mouth with a pair pants.
They tied her hands and legs, pulled off a gold chain she was wearing and took anything of value from her apartment.
The medical examiner determined that Levi died of asphyxia.
Police found DNA evidence in the apartment that led them to the suspects.
The woman told the court that her husband forced her to kill Levi. The judge however, rejected her claim, saying there was overwhelming evidence that she voluntarily committed the crime.
