(Scroll down for video) You can now receive a 5 year jail sentence for uploading “revenge porn” to the Internet in Israel.
The Knesset passed a new law, which aims to prevent someone from becoming a porn star against their will.
The legislature added an amendment to the Preventing Sexual Harassment law prohibiting uploading videos or pictures of a sexual nature to the Internet.
The act of doing so is known as "virtual rape,” and it is now punishable by up to five years in prison.
The bill was introduced after an incident where a video of a couple having sex at a nightclub was uploaded to the WhatsApp application and was forwarded to thousands of people nationwide.
The legislation initially faced some opposition on concerns that it may violate freedom of expression. The law was modified to exclude videos that have a public interest or those that are uploaded by mistake.
