(Scroll down for video) A little boy is dead after being run over by a minivan while crossing a street in Crown Heights, police in New York said.
Brooklyn Police said that the driver of the minivan, who allegedly killed the 5-year-old boy while crossing the street with his mother on Sunday night, has been arrested.
Rashard Charles died after being hit on Empire Boulevard about 8:30 p.m. Charles and his mother were crossing the road in the middle of a block when they were hit by the minivan.
The boy and his mother were both knocked to the ground and the child was pronounced dead at a hospital. Police said that the driver of a Honda Odyssey, 23-year-old Elizabeth Mayard, left the scene after hitting Charles.
She later returned and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, reckless driving and other traffic offenses.
