(Scroll down for video) A New York City police officer was arrested and charged with vandalism as a hate crime after allegedly spray painting hateful remarks against Jews in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn.
The officer spray painted anti-Semitic messages on about 14 cars and several buildings.
Michael Setiawan scrawled the remarks in pink letters across cars and walls where many ultra-Orthodox Jews live. Setiawan, 36, was charged with criminal mischief as a hate crime and aggravated harassment as a hate crime.
Setiawan of Queens, was a police officer for two years in Canarsie, Brooklyn. The anti-Semitic messages began appearing before 9:00 p.m. on Saturday on 14th Avenue and 50th Street in Brooklyn.
Politicians were quick to denounce the hate messages that included profane attacks on Jews and what appeared to be a square with a cross through it, painted on the door of a Hasidic school.
