The Jewish community in Tunisia is fuming after police released a Muslim man without charges despite the fact that he stabbed a Jewish businessman in an anti-Jewish attack.
The incident began on Thursday, about 6:00 p.m. when the masked Muslim arrived at the Jewish market carrying a knife and wanted to stab one of the merchants.
He targeted 38-year-old Gabriel Ozen, a father of four children. According to witnesses at the scene, the suspect shouted “the nation of Muhammad returns to take revenge.”
The Jewish man struggled with the suspect, and during the scuffle Ozen was stabbed in the chest. Ozen was transferred to a nearby hospital, and is said to be in stable condition.
The suspect was held down until police arrived. After police took the suspect to the police station more than a hundred masked men gathered at the station and threatened to burn down the building if the suspect is not released.
Following the threats the suspect was released without any charges.
