(Scroll down for video) Sixteen Flatbush students were injured after a firecracker exploded on their school bus, rescue workers in New York said.
Brooklyn Police said that the incident occurred on Tuesday morning about 7:30 a.m.
The bus that was on Ocean Avenue and Dorchester Road, filled with smoke. Witnesses at the scene said that one or two children set off the firecracker on the bus.
Feinberg said the bus was carrying students attending the Brooklyn Dreams Charter School, located on Coney Island Avenue. About 44 students were on the bus at the time of the incident.
Some children complained of shortness of breath and asthma attacks. In total, 15 people suffered minor injuries and one student was seriously injured.
11 were taken to area hospitals and five were treated at the scene.
