Israel increases alert level to ‘Special State’ as military begins ‘Operation Protective Edge’

(Scroll down for video) The Israeli military has announced that it has increased the nationwide alert level to “Special State,” as it has launched “Operation Protective Edge” to wipe out the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon declared “A Special State of Alert in the Home Front” in communities and Councils that are within a 40 kilometres range from the border with the Gaza Strip.

Ya'alon declared the special state after concluding deliberations with the Home Front Commander General Eyal Eizenberg, CEO of the Defense Ministry Dan Har'el and Head of the National Emergency Authority, and in light of the latest developments in the confrontation with Hamas.

During the deliberations Ya'alon stated: "We are preparing for a campaign against Hamas that will not end within a few days. Hamas is leading this current clash with an objective of taking a toll on our civilian population. There is need for endurance. Correct behavior of the population, including following the instructions of the Home Front Command regarding the entrance into sheltered spaces, have a crucial role if we wish to avoid casualties. In the last hours, we have been intensely attacked and have attacked tens of Hamas assets. The IDF continues with its offensive efforts that will make Hamas pay a very heavy price. We will not tolerate the shooting of rockets and missiles at Israeli communities, and we are prepared to extend this campaign with every means at our disposal in order to continue to strike Hamas. I would like to strengthen the residents of the south, the Mayors and the Councils, who demonstrate leadership and responsibility, and are helping us continue the offensive effort.”

Military sources have indicated that it is possible that Hamas will expand the range of attacks against Israel, and could possibly target Tel Aviv and other cities in central Israel. The current situation has prompted the Security Cabinet to launch Operation “Protective Edge,” during which the IDF has targeted some 50 terror targets in Gaza overnight, including the homes of four Hamas terror leaders.

Hamas uses images from war torn Iraq and Syria as Israeli attacks on Gaza

Incident from Syria erroneously claimed to have occurred in Gaza
By: Aryeh Savir

(Scroll down for video) Hamas is trying to win over support by publishing photos of Israeli attacks on Gaza.

However, those photos were taken from war torn Syria and Iraq, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

A significant part of any battle nowadays is waged in the media, as each side tries to garner public support through the exploit of images and footage used to influence popular opinion.

A report by the BBC shows that Hamas in Gaza, is wasting no time in the current round of violence, and began to generate the imagery they use in their media battle. However, many of images are falsified.

"Graphic images are being shared on social media to show how people have been affected by the renewed tensions between Israel and the Palestinians," the BBC writes. "Over the past week, the hashtag #GazaUnderAttack has been used hundreds of thousands of times, often to distribute pictures claiming to show the effects of Israeli airstrikes on Gaza."

The hashtag has received 375,000 retweets in eight days. "A #BBCtrending investigation has found that many of these images are not from the latest conflict and not even from Gaza. Some date as far back as 2009, and others are from conflicts in Syria and Iraq."

Hamas have gained a notorious reputation in this field. Tazpit's Anav Silverman reported in 2012, that during Operation “Pillar of Defense,” Hamas used fake ‘Gaza’ photos with false headlines, which incited a flurry of comments on Facebook against Israel. The photos were of massacres that occurred in Syria, but were depicted as massacres of Gazan families by the IDF. Other such incidents occur persistently.

Israel launches ‘Operation Protective Edge’ after 450 Gaza rockets disturb sleep of million of Israelis

Rocket hits building in Sderot
By: Anav Silverman

Millions of Israelis had their sleep interrupted after hundreds of rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

Since January, Gaza terrorists have fired more than 450 rockets towards Israeli citizens in communities across southern Israel according to the IDF spokesperson.

Over 200 of those rockets have been fired from Gaza since June 12, the day on which three Israeli teens were abducted and murdered by Hamas terrorists.

At least 80 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel within 24 hours on Monday, with air raid sirens sounding throughout Monday night in southern Israel including the city of Ofakim and the Merhavim region.

According to the IDF, 11 of the 80 rockets were shot down by Iron Dome systems. The IDF spokesperson also stated that Hamas was responsible for launching a large majority of the rockets.

Thousands of Israelis in the south spent the night in bomb shelters. A number of Israeli radio stations from Tel Aviv to Be’er Sheva, Ashkelon, Ashdod and even the Arava region, broadcasted the rocket sirens overnight. This way, people who chose to sleep in their own beds instead of protected rooms were able to sleep in between the warning sirens and running for shelter.

A Hamas twitter account stated that the “mission” of the rockets was to shatter the calm and security of Israelis in retaliation to Israel targeting terrorist infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.

Over 25 rockets targeted Israeli communities along the Gaza border on Sunday, striking the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council, the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council and Sderot.

The Gaza rockets have injured Israelis, damaging homes, property and cars including a nursery room in Sderot on July 3, and burned down two factories to the ground in Sderot on June 28.

Palestinian terrorists have also carried out cross-border attacks from Gaza, with a terrorist armed with a grenade infiltrating an Israeli village on June 22.

Meanwhile, the IDF Home Front Command announced on Monday, that all summer camps and school-related activities including tests held at schools located within 40 kilometers of the Gaza Strip, would be cancelled due to the threat of rocket fire. In addition, the IDF Home Front Command also limited groups of people gathering in the region to no more than 300 people at a time.

The national security adviser to the Israeli prime minister, Yaakov Amidror, stated that Hamas holds “about 10,000 rockets” and told Israel’s Channel 2 that Israelis “may be in for many more nights of rocket attacks.”

The Israeli Air Force has struck multiple terror targets in the Gaza Strip early Tuesday morning, since the IDF announced the launching of Operation Protective Edge (“Tzuk Eitan” in Hebrew). The IDF spokesperson stated in the early hours of Tuesday morning that “the IDF has commenced Operation Protective Edge in Gaza against Hamas, in order to stop the terror that Israel’s citizens face on a daily basis and to restore quiet to Israel's border."

2 women caught on video stealing loads of items from man at Florida beach

Two women stealing stuff at a beach
By: Sanvi Rizvi

(Scroll down for video) A man was shocked to see that two women decided to steal all of his belongings, a video uploaded to the Internet showed.

The video showed how the two women casually steal a canopy on the beach in Florida.

They were caught red-handed by the owner of the items identified as Rich. The burglars may have difficulty committing more thefts in the future as the video has since gone viral on the Internet with more than 2.5 million views.

The two middle-aged women, dressed in bathing suits, took their freedom a little too far on New Smyrna Beach. The video begins where Rich asked the two women if they own the beach canopy that they are trying to dismantle.

“Yes, but we do not know how to dismantle it,” one woman replied. “Oh, do you need help?"Rich asked. “Do you know how to do it?” The woman asked. “Yes. Because it is my stuff,” Rich replied.

The women pretend that the canopy, beach chairs and surfboards are theirs. “These are all my stuff,” Rich insisted. The thieves however, did not back off.

One woman approached Rich, and threatened to bury his video camera in the grass. The video ends as the woman slapped the camera.

Rich later said that he was surprised by the reaction of the women. He and his family left their things at the beach while the children went back to the apartment.

Rich returned about an hour and a half later to check on his belongings. He was shocked to see the women packing up all his stuff as if they were theirs.

Eventually the women fled. Rich decided against filing a police report.
