Six police officers trying to keep back the attackers and two Jews, were wounded in the clashes. Prime Minister Manuel Valls condemned the synagogue attacks in the strongest possible terms.

”France will never tolerate the use of words or violence to import the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on our soil,” Valls said. The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, praised the police and called for calm.

The current Israeli-Palestinian conflict has heightened tensions in France, which is home to the largest Muslim population in Western Europe, as well as the largest Jewish community.

PM Netanyahu tell world: ‘We use missiles to defend people while Hamas uses people to defend missiles’ (video)

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
By: Aryeh Savir

(Scroll down for video) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made clear the difference between the Israelis and the Palestinian in the Gaza Strip, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

Netanyahu was interviewed Sunday, on Face the Nation and Sunday.

Netanyahu's primary objective was to strengthen the legitimacy of Operation Protective Edge in the international community.

He stressed the difference between the IDF's actions and Hamas' targeting of civilians, while using their own civilians as shields and their homes as centers for terror.

"Here's a difference between us. We're using missile defense to protect our civilians and they're using their civilians to protect their missiles. That's basically the difference. They're embedding these rockets that they're firing wholesale into our cities, trying to kill as many as they can," said Netanyahu.

"They're not succeeding because of two reasons. One is because we've developed this incredible missile defense system, which I think is a stark development in the history of defensive warfare, with U.S. help and I want to thank the American people, President Obama, and the U.S. Congress, for helping us fund this amazing development. The other reason we're succeeding is that we also are targeting the terrorists. The terrorists are firing from homes. These homes are actually command posts of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad army. That's where they have their secure communications, weapon caches, rockets hidden, maps rooms and so on. These are their command posts. Obviously, we're not going to give them immunity and so we have to attack them, and we try to minimize civilian casualties."

A rocket attack occurred during the interview itself. "We've just received a quiet alert as we're giving this interview. What you're hearing right now is the calm alert. In other words, when we began this interview, we were under bomb alert and as the minutes passed, we are being told that people can go out into the open air again. This is the kind of reality we're living in, and we'll do whatever is necessary to put an end to this," Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu tied the violence in Gaza with the ongoing talks between the West and Iran on their nuclear development project. "This is the same Iran that is arming, financing, training Hamas and Islamic Jihad. This is the preeminent terrorist empire of our time. Not even a terrorist state, it's a terrorist empire. It has got these terror provinces. You don't want this Iran to have neither nuclear weapons nor the capability to make nuclear weapons, to enrich uranium for a nuclear bomb in short order, in a few weeks or a few months. They could do that unless that's changed."

Hamas cuts off its own electricity after Gaza rocket hit electrical grid

Black out illustration
By: Aryeh Savir

Thousands of residents in the Gaza Strip lost power after a Hamas rocket hit the electrical grid that supplies power to the territory, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

In what seems to be routine, Hamas continues to fire rockets at civilian targets all across Israel throughout the day and night, as the IDF continues to attack terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip.

More than 130 rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel on Sunday. At least 102 rockets struck Israel. 22 rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense systems.

A rocket fired from Gaza hit electricity infrastructure in Israel that supplies power to Gaza, leaving 70,000 people in Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah in the dark. The Israel Electric Company (IEC) decided not to fix the power line, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister for Regional Development Silvan Shalom, have instructed the company not to put the lives of IEC workers at risk.

Hamas is known to snipe at Israelis working near Gaza. The power line will be fixed when the security situation allows it, the company said.

As a prelude to heavier attacks on rocket launching sites situated primarily in northern Gaza, the IDF dropped leaflets and sent cell phone messages to Gazans living it that area.

The messages warned civilians to move away from Hamas terrorists and command centers, which pose a grave risk to their safety. Hamas urged Palestinians to ignore these warnings, hoping that they continue to serve as human shields.

The Security Cabinet is still undecided about a ground incursion into Gaza. Just after 12:00 a.m., three rockets were fired at northern Israel from Lebanon.

One hit an open area. The IDF immediately responded with artillery fire towards the source. The United Nations was notified about the incident.

A rocket fired from Syria hit Israel as well. The rocket was probably fired intentionally and not a spillover from the civil war being waged there. The IDF responded with artillery toward Syrian military posts. Hits were confirmed.

Since the start of the operation, over 971 rockets have been launched at Israel. 754 of those rockets hit Israel, and approximately 201 rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense systems. The IDF has targeted over 1,474 terror targets, with both naval and aerial capabilities.

The drone was shot down on Monday morning, the first drone to be sent into Israel by Hamas.

Hamas said that it has sent several drones to carry out "special missions" deep inside Israel. The drone was intercepted near the port of Ashdod by a U.S. made Patriot missile.

“We closely monitored the drone the moment it left Gaza, and we chose where to intercept it,” military spokesperson Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said.

The remains of the drone fell in the Mediterranean Sea. The Patriot missile proved ineffective against Iraqi Scud missiles during the Gulf War of 1991.

Palestinian envoy to U.N. admits that each rocket fired from Gaza is a war crime (video)

Ibrahim Khreisheh admits Gaza war crimes
By: Aryeh Savir and Yaniv Hassidoff

(Scroll down for video) The Palestinian envoy to the U.N. Human Rights Council admitted that each rocket fired from Gaza at Israel is a war crime, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

Ibrahim Khreisheh admitted in an interview translated by MEMRI (The Middle East Media Research Institute), that the Palestinian Authority and Hamas do not abide by international law and commit war crimes.

Responding to a question presented to him on Palestinian Authority last week about the Palestinians' demand to appeal to the International Criminal Court at The Hague against Israel, Khreisheh responded: "The missiles that are now being launched against Israel, each and every missile constitutes a crime against humanity, whether it hits or misses, because it is directed at civilian targets. Therefore, targeting civilians, be it one civilian or a thousand, is considered a crime against humanity."

Relating to Israel's way of operating in Gaza during Protective Edge he stated: "Please note that many of our people in Gaza appeared on TV and said that the Israeli army warned them to evacuate their homes before bombardment. In such a case, if someone is killed, the law considers it a mistake rather than intentional killing, because the Israelis followed the legal procedures."

Khreisheh further stated that Hamas, firing from Palestinian Authority controlled areas, does not warn civilians before firing on them and by doing so is committing war crimes: "As for the missiles launched from our side, we never warn anyone about where these missiles are about to fall, or about the operation we carry out."

The envoy concluded by saying that the PA has no hope of pressing charges against Israel in international courts: "Therefore, people should know more before they talk emotionally about appealing to the ICC."
