Warning sirens and missiles rock London in support of Israel

Pro-Israel rally illustration
By: Anika Rao

Warning sirens and missiles will be heard in London, England, as part of a pro-Israel rally.

On Sunday, the solidarity rally with Israel will recreate the conditions that led to Operation Protective Edge.

Several thousand supporters of Israel in the heart of London will fall to the ground to seek protection as sirens blare out across High Street Kensington – just as they do across towns and cities in Israel on an hourly basis.

There will also be several missiles present, of the type that have been launched hundreds of times from Gaza. The solidarity rally for Israel, organized by the Zionist Federation and backed by 60 organizations from across the religious and political spectrum, will be held outside the Israeli Embassy from between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

The siren will be sounded at 3:00 p.m. The rally will emphasize the desire of Israel to live in peace, and free from the threat of terror. The crowd, which is expected to be several thousand strong, will stand in solidarity with Israel and innocent civilians on both sides, all of whom are endangered by Hamas.

“It has been over half a century since Britain last experienced the sound of sirens warning of impending rocket fire. While the terror of the Blitz by the Nazis, is thankfully just a historical fact for most Londoners, for ordinary Israelis it’s an everyday reality. It is impossible to understand why Israel is targeting terrorists in Gaza without acknowledging this reality. When even Palestinian diplomats admit that the hundreds of rockets fired by Hamas are a violation of international law, and the U.N. admits that these rockets are stored in its schools, it’s time for as many people as possible to say yes to peace, and no to terror,” The Zionist Federation of the U.K. said.

Hillary Clinton voices strong support for Israel despite Jon Stewart’s attempt to put blame solely on Israel (video)

Hillary Clinton with Jon Stewart
By: Aryeh Savir and Matan Pazi

(Scroll down for video) Jon Stewart tried to push Hillary Clinton, into blaming the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Israel, but it failed, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

On Monday, during an interview on The Daily Show, Stewart devoted two-and-a-half minutes to attack Israel on its counter-terror operation in Gaza.

His jokes were one sided and biased, and he placed the blame of the entire situation on Israel.

On Tuesday, he hosted former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. It seems that he tried to elicit from her the same kind of statements, but instead, Clinton expressed strong support for Israel. Stewart stated at the beginning of the interview that he did not want to touch upon issues such as “good and evil,” but Clinton discussed just that.

Relating to the supposed humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Clinton stated: "They're trapped by their leadership. Unfortunately, they have leadership that is committed to resistance and violence, and therefore their actions are mostly about how do we get new and better missiles to launch them at Israel instead of saying, ‘hey let's try and figure out how we're going to make your lives better.’"

She further reaffirmed that: "The Israelis are absolutely right in saying that they can’t just sit there and let rockets rain down. They have a missile defense system that is working well, but that can't be certain, and now there are drones that are being launched from Gaza. They have tried with the Palestinian Authority President Abbas, to figure out a way to try to move forward on some sort of negotiated settlement. It is very difficult."

"The Hamas leadership now feels somewhat trapped themselves, because they had an ally with the Muslim Brotherhood. I negotiated the ceasefire with Morsi, and Morsi was able to convince the Hamas groups to abide by it. He’s gone, and the new regime in Cairo, sees Hamas as a danger to them because they see them as a source of instability and violence that can affect them in Sinai and beyond. So they are trapped. I would argue first and foremost that the leadership doesn’t really want to make the situation that much better because that gives them a lot of leverage over the poor people in Gaza," Clinton said.

Stewart tried to explain that Hamas is offering resistance as freedom fighters, but Clinton replied: " I don’t agree with that for a couple of reasons. When Israel withdrew from Gaza, and I was aware of that I was in the senate, I was talking to the people who were organizing it. They left a lot of their businesses, there was a really valuable horticultural business that was set up by the Israelis, who had lived in Gaza, and the idea was that this would be literally turned over. Money was provided, there would be a fund that would train Palestinians in Gaza to do this work and basically the leadership said we don’t want anything left from Israel, destroyed it all. That mentality to me is hard to deal with. If you look at the Palestinian Authority even though it’s hard for them, they have said they want to end the violence, we want to negotiate a two state solution and we recognize Israel’s right to exist. Hamas has not and says it will not do that. So we're really in a terrible dilemma and today, there was an offer of a ceasefire from the Egyptian government, which the Israelis immediately accepted, while the Hamas leadership said no. Part of what I see Hamas doing is their identity comes from being the violent resistance because they're trying to somehow set themselves apart from Abbas and the Fatah segment, who say we will talk with, we will deal with, we will cooperate with Israel, despite our desire to have a state,” Clinton concluded.

Hillary is not the only Clinton who places the blame on Hamas for the current fighting. In an interview to NDTV last Thursday, former President Bill Clinton was even more pointed in his assessment, telling an interviewer: “Hamas was perfectly well aware what would happen if they started raining rockets on Israel. They fired a thousand of them, and they have a strategy designed to force Israel to kill their own civilians so that the rest of the world will condemn them.”

Rocket siren goes off during phone conversation between Israeli PM Netanyahu and U.S. President Obama

Barack Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu talking on the phone
By: Aryeh Savir

U.S. President Barack Obama felt shaken after a rocket siren went off during a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

Netanyahu is continuing his extensive efforts to maintain international support for Israel's operation against Hamas.

Netanyahu met with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, and told him at the start of their meeting: "I don't think the international community should create any kind of symmetry between a democracy legitimately acting in its own self-defense and trying to avoid civilian casualties, and a terrorist organization that deliberately targets millions of innocent civilians. I know it's not the position of France, and I think it shouldn't be the position of anyone in the international community."

French-led efforts to reach a deal failed to yield results. Fabius, who flew to Israel after talks in Egypt and Jordan, told reporters after meeting with Netanyahu: "Sadly, I can say that the call for a ceasefire has not been heard, and on the contrary, there's a risk of more civilian casualties that worries us."

Prime Minister Netanyahu also spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and told him about the missiles that were found at a U.N. school in Gaza. Netanyahu said that Hamas is hiding rockets in schools and firing them at Israeli schools, and noted that Hamas is using schools, residences, mosques and hospitals in order to launch rockets at Israeli civilians.

He added that since Hamas is using innocent civilians as human shields for its terrorist activities, it is responsible if civilians are inadvertently hit.

On Friday, Netanyahu spoke with U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and asked him to publish photographs showing the munitions that were hidden in the U.N. school in Gaza.

Netanyahu added that Hamas conceals ammunition in schools and fires it at schools in Israel. Netanyahu stressed again that there is no symmetry between a murderous terrorist organization and a moral democratic state that is under attack by missiles and tunnels.

He said that Israel regrets any inadvertent strike on Palestinian civilians, whereas Hamas intentionally fires at millions of Israeli civilians. Qatar will host a meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today in an attempt to reach a ceasefire agreement.

Later on Friday evening, Netanyahu spoke with U.S. President Barack Obama. During their conversation, a siren was heard as a result of missile fire from Gaza to Israel, and the Prime Minister explained that this was the reality in which millions of Israelis have been living recently.

Netanyahu told U.S. President Obama that Hamas was using the residents of Gaza as human shields, as was seen yesterday when munitions were discovered in a U.N. school in Gaza, and added that Hamas was responsible for injuries to the residents of Gaza.

Netanyahu further thanked U.S. President Obama for his country's support of Israel's right to defend itself and for the partnership in developing the Iron Dome system.

Speaking to reporters after the conversation, Obama said; “We discussed Israel's military operation in Gaza, including its efforts to stop the threat of terrorist infiltration through tunnels into Israel. I reaffirmed my strong support for Israel's right to defend itself. No nation should accept rockets being fired into its borders or terrorists tunneling into its territory. In fact, while I was having the conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu, sirens went off in Tel Aviv.”

Obama also expressed concern about “the loss of more innocent life.” “That's why we've indicated that although we support military efforts by the Israelis to make sure that rockets are not being fired into their territory, we also have said that our understanding is the current military ground operations are designed to deal with the tunnels,” he said. He noted that Secretary of State John Kerry “is working to support Egypt's initiative to pursue that outcome. I told Prime Minister Netanyahu that John is prepared to travel to the region following additional consultations.”

In general, Israel is so far enjoying strong international support for its efforts to defend itself from Hamas terrorist aggressions.

Israeli soldiers kill 70 terrorists and arrest 21 others since entering Gaza

Israeli soldier preparing to enter Gaza
By: Aryeh Savir

(Scroll down for video) Israeli soldiers have killed over 70 terrorists and have arrested at least 21 others since entering the Gaza Strip on Thursday night, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

The IDF is continuing to broaden its ground operation in the Gaza Strip.

Its current primary objective is to discover and destroy tunnels used by Hamas terrorists. Ground forces, armor, artillery and Special Forces are participating in the action.

Hamas invested months and even years in digging these terror tunnels, and are doing all they can to thwart the IDF's efforts to seek and destroy them.

The operation is being executed slowly and with surgical precision as Hamas has booby-trapped the tunnels, forcing the troops to work slowly and at times in open areas in Gaza, leaving them exposed to sniper and anti-tank fire.

Over 70 terrorists have been killed in battles with the IDF. In one incident, a terrorist came out of a tunnel and attacked a paratrooper unit. He was killed in the gun fight. Hamas has further resorted to suicide attacks, using animals as carriers of the deadly charges. 21 terrorists were arrested and taken for further questioning.

Over 40 tunnel shafts have been discovered, five of the tunnels run their course all the way into Israel. Over the past 24 hours, the IDF has attacked some 450 terror targets from air, sea and land, including 10 hidden rocket launchers. Since the beginning of the operation, the IDF has attacked 2,570 targets

Early Friday morning, First Sgt. Eitan Barak, 20, was killed in Gaza. Yesterday, Sgt. Adar Barsano, 20, and Maj. (res.) Amotz Greenberg, 45, were killed by Hamas terrorists who infiltrated into Israel. They were killed as a group of Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel through a tunnel from Gaza, and attempted to carry out a massacre in an Israeli community near the border.

The IDF thwarted the attack. One of the infiltrators was killed, while the others escaped to Gaza. Two IDF soldiers were wounded in the attack. The terrorists wore IDF uniforms and carried with them sedatives and binding equipment, evidence of their ongoing efforts to abduct Israeli civilians.

Early this morning, Second Lieutenant Bar Rahav of the combat Engineers, 21, was killed by an anti-tank missile that hit his vehicle. Sergeant Benaya Rubel, a paratrooper, 20, was killed in clashes in the Gaza Strip. An IDF officer was seriously injured in this incident.

Since last night, two IDF soldiers have been seriously injured, one was moderately wounded and another two were lightly wounded.

Rockets continue to rain down on civilian targets in Israel, albeit in a lessened intensity and frequency. However, Hamas still has the ability to fire on Israel's main cities, including Be'er Sheva and Tel Aviv, and have done so this morning.

An Israeli Bedouin was killed over the weekend by a rocket and four members of his family were wounded, including a three-month-old baby who is in critical condition. The Israeli military said Hamas terrorists have fired at least 1,705 rockets out of an estimated stockpile of about 10,000, a depletion of about 17 percent.

(Scroll down for video) Hundreds of women and several noted rabbis gathered at the Western Wall to pray for the success of Operation Protective Edge, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

The massive prayer rally was held on Saturday night, for the safety and successful mission of the Israel Defense Forces.

Former Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar, called upon the Israeli public to read the Psalms as did rabbis from across the spectrum.

Rabbi Amar was among the Israeli rabbis who led the prayers and read the Psalms on Saturday night, as thousands gathered at Judaism’s holiest site in the nation's capital.

Over the weekend, two Israeli soldiers were killed and four were wounded when a Hamas terror cell infiltrated Israel through a tunnel dug from central Gaza. Amotz Greenberg, 45, from Hod Hasharon, and Sgt. Adar Barsano, 20, from Nahariya, were shot by Hamas terrorists as they patrolled the area on the Israeli side of the border.

The Hamas gunmen were dressed in IDF uniforms, and were heading to a nearby Israeli community to carry out a major attack. The IDF patrol vehicle had not been the intended target, but the terror cell opened fire with machine guns and anti-tank weaponry on the vehicle, killing the two Israeli officers.

Israeli troops returned fire and killed one terrorist while the other terrorists fled back to Gaza. Military sources said that the presence of the Israeli patrol vehicle prevented a much more devastating attack on Israeli civilians.

More IDF soldiers have been deployed on the Israeli side of the Gaza border in order to prevent such attacks in the future according to the military.

In addition, two IDF soldiers were lightly injured and one severely injured overnight in a confrontation with Hamas terrorists in northern Gaza.

Also on Saturday, a Bedouin man, 32, was killed by a Gaza rocket that exploded in a community near Dimona. His relatives also sustained light to moderate wounds including two boys and two women. They were hospitalized in Soroka hospital of Be’er Sheva.

Over 94 rockets were fired at Israel throughout Saturday, with rocket alarms sounding in Ashdod, Gedera, Kiryat Malachi, Dimona, Be’er Sheva, and the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council.

The Iron Dome systems intercepted a rocket over the Tel Aviv metropolitan area on Saturday night.

In one of the more bizarre attack attempts, a donkey laden with explosives was spotted approaching IDF forces in the Rafah area on Friday evening.

The forces approached the donkey and it exploded at a safe distance, with no injuries sustained by the IDF. According to the IDF, up-to-date Israel Security Agency intelligence have brought to light that Palestinian terror organizations in Gaza intend to strap explosives onto animals and send them in the direction of ground forces. This was the first such attempt reported since Operation Protective Edge began 12 days ago.

Approximately 3,000 rockets have been eliminated in Gaza, said IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, while 13 terror tunnels were uncovered on the Gaza border. The Israeli Air Force has launched 2,400 strikes against terror targets in Gaza as of Saturday.

It is estimated that half of the 10,000 rockets held by the terrorist groups in Gaza, have been either used or destroyed.
