“Kill Jews” scrawled in children’s playground
By: Sanvi Rizvi

Jewish residents of the Bronx, New York, were shocked to find “kills Jews” and swastikas scrawled on a local children’s playground.

Police have launched an investigation after four swastikas and the anti-Semitic phrase were found drawn in chalk at the McLaughlin Playground.

A Jewish man who brought his two grandchildren to the playground located on Greystone Avenue, reported the incident to police.

The 63-year-old man said that luckily, his grandchildren are too young to read and they do not know the meaning of the swastika.

Police removed the hateful inscriptions from the playground. Another Jewish resident however, said that she is not bothered by the swastika and “kill Jews” phrase.

“You just have to ignore it. The hate has been here for thousands of years. The people behind it are just ignorant,” she said.

"Such acts of hatred have no place in our borough or anywhere in civilized society. This anti-Semitic graffiti is a sad reminder of the cruelty some individuals are capable of, and I am proud to join my colleagues today to condemn this act in one united voice. The people of The Bronx do not tolerate hatred of any kind, and I hope those responsible for this hate crime are brought to justice," Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. said.

Israel Air Force pilots tell world how they avoid civilian casualties in Gaza (video)

Lt. Or
By: Devansh Dutt

(Scroll down for video) Several Israeli military pilots spoke about how they avoid hitting civilians, the IDF Blog reported.

While the IDF goes to extraordinary lengths to avoid civilian casualties, Hamas deliberately puts civilians in the line of fire.

The terrorist organization bases command centers, weapons storage facilities and concealed rocket launchers inside civilian neighborhoods, sometimes even inside houses.

Lt. Or and Lt. Omer are two pilots in the Israel Air Force, whose work reduces harm to civilians in Gaza.

Lt. Or is a 25-year-old soldier with an enormous responsibility. He decides whether to call off an airstrike in Gaza for the sake of preserving human life.

Lt. Or operates drones over Gaza in order to gather intelligence before airstrikes. The drones provide the IDF with a clear picture of the ground in real time. “Before every flight, we have a briefing about what is happening in the Strip,” said Lt. Or.

“Then we perform a reconnaissance mission to ensure the intelligence matches the reality on the ground,” he added.

The purpose of this intelligence gathering is to ensure that a strike on a target will not cause harm to civilians. “Before every airstrike, the pilot needs permission from us,” Lt. Or. emphasized. “We are the only side in this conflict that attempts to prevent civilians from being harmed.”

Because Hamas has embedded its military infrastructure within civilian areas, the IDF often cancels airstrikes due to the appearance of civilians near a target.

“I have personally seen rockets fired at Israel from hospitals and schools, but we couldn’t strike back because of civilians nearby,” said Lt. Or. “In one instance, we acquired a target, but we saw that there were children in the area. We waited around, and when they didn’t leave, we were forced to abort a strike on an important target.”

Drones are unmanned, but Lt. Or points out that “everything a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) does is directed by a human decision on the ground.” Though he and his peers can’t prevent the deaths of all civilians, Lt. Or explained that “Israel sees the death of every civilian as a tragedy. We do everything in our power to ensure that civilians are not harmed.”

“I am proud to be UAV pilot,” concluded Lt Or. “I am proud of the moral code of the IDF.”

Lt. Omer, a fighter pilot, shares the burden of making tough decisions during air strikes. He flies his plane into Gaza, and strikes targets in the area. He knows firsthand the challenge of fighting Hamas terrorists while they hide behind civilians.

“In Gaza, we use bombs that are extremely precise, and strike only Hamas targets – not civilians – once the UAVs have completed their surveillance.” Nonetheless, Lt. Omer knows that planes cannot always strike with accuracy, and that sometimes, operations can go wrong.

“For every mistake that we make, we perform in-depth inquiries to make sure that it won’t happen again. We do everything we can to limit civilian casualties in Gaza. We target only Hamas facilities and infrastructure.”

Airstrikes are frequently canceled due to the proximity of civilians. “Two days ago, we were preparing to strike a target. Five seconds before we released the bombs, we were told to cancel the strike.”

Despite the danger posed to his life and the heavy burden he carries, Lt. Omer says he is “very proud to be a pilot in the IAF and protect Israel from Hamas’ rockets.”

Wall Street Journal reporter at Gaza hospital slams Hamas for using hospitals as human shields (video)

Hamas spokesperson in basement of Gaza hospital
By: Aryeh Savir

(Scroll down for video) A Wall Street Journal reporter who met a Hamas terrorist at a Gaza hospital, slammed the terror organization for using hospitals as human shields, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

Nicholas Casey was about to interview a Hamas spokesman in the basement of the Shifa hospital in Gaza, when the spokesman proudly sat down on a chair, his dress immaculate and his shoes polished. Behind him was a massive poster, allegedly of the destruction in Gaza.

Before conducting the interview, Casey took a photo of the setting and tweeted: "You have to wonder with the shelling how patients at Shifa hospital feel as Hamas uses it as a safe place to greet reporters."

Casey was relating to Hamas' use of human shields and their use of mosques, schools, kindergartens, hospitals and homes as a battle ground.

Hamas deliberately uses Palestinian civilians as human shields, and has a long history of doing so. By using human shields, Hamas hopes to achieve two goals: to deter IDF attacks on legitimate military targets, and to exploit any incidental harm that is caused as a result of IDF military activity.

Hamas knows very well that the IDF does everything that it can to avoid civilian casualties. That is why in recent days, Hamas issued messages on its television, radio, and social media platforms to ignore the IDF’s warnings of impending strikes and to remain in their homes.

On July 17th, a Hamas terrorist in Gaza rushed into an ambulance when an IDF aircraft targeted him. The IDF called off the strike so as to not hit the ambulance. The terrorist was using the ambulance and its staff to protect himself.

On that same day, twenty Hamas rockets were found in a school belonging to UNRWA in Gaza. “The incident endangered civilians including staff, and put at risk UNRWA’s vital mission to assist and protect Palestinian refugees in Gaza,” the U.N. commented.

Hamas’ use of human shields is a clear and deliberate violation of international law.

20,000 people attend funeral of Israeli soldier from Texas killed in Gaza

Funeral of Sean Carmeli
By: Aryeh Savir

(Scroll down for video) Thousands of people have come to the funeral held for a lone Israeli soldier from Texas, who was killed in Gaza, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

Sean Carmeli, a Golani Brigade Fighter from South Padre Island, was laid to rest last night, as tens of thousands accompanied him on his last journey.

Sean's two sisters live in Israel, and besides them he had very little family in Israel. It was initially feared he would not receive a respectable and proper funeral, as few in Israel knew him.

Realizing this, officials of the Maccabi Haifa soccer team, Sean's favorite team, called on its fans to attend Carmeli’s funeral. In a heartfelt call to fans, the Maccabi Haifa soccer club called on its fans to “do a mitzvah (a good deed) and attend the funeral of fallen IDF soldier Nissim Sean Carmeli, so that his funeral will not be empty. Carmeli was a lone soldier, and we don't want his funeral to be empty. Come to his funeral Monday night to pay respects to a man who died so that we could live. This is the least we can do for him and for our nation,” the message said.

The message was passed through Israeli social media and news outlets like a brush fire, and over 20,000 people heeded the call attending the late night funeral in Haifa. The turnout was so overwhelming that many were stuck in traffic on the way, and some received medical treatment at the funeral as a result of overcrowding.

No one knew him, but all felt they had to come and pay their last respects to a fallen soldier who died protecting them.

"I don’t know him, and I am not a Maccabi Haifa fan, but I received the message and decided I was going. We are coming to pay our last respects to someone who is a hero to us," said one participant.

Another participant, who made the long drive from the south, said she came to say thank you. "He came here to protect us. He had no family, and so we are his family at this time."

Carmeli, 21, a U.S. citizen, was killed on Sunday in Gaza. He was part of a team of seven Israeli soldiers, who were all killed when an explosive device detonated on their armored vehicle. Carmeli was given the opportunity to avoid service in Gaza because of a foot injury, but insisted on going anyway.

Israeli soldiers destroy 23 Hamas tunnels and kill 186 terrorists since entering Gaza

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talking to NBC News
By: Aryeh Savir

(Scroll down for video) The Israeli military has destroyed 23 Hamas tunnels since entering Gaza, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

IDF forces continue to move slowly through the Gaza neighborhoods of Shuja’iya, Jabalya and Beit Lahiya, searching for terror tunnels, weapons caches and terrorist command and control centers.

The fighting is fierce and intense, as Hamas, which has dug these tunnels at great cost, does not want to lose this strategic weapon that enables them to launch coordinated attacks within Israel.

The IDF is determined to destroy as much tunnels as possible, eliminating this threat to the citizens of Israel. 23 terror tunnels have been uncovered by IDF forces since July 17th.

The close-quarters fighting has exacted a heavy toll on IDF soldiers, and 27 soldiers have fallen during Operation Protective Edge.

186 terrorists have been killed in the fighting, 20 over the past night. In total, 23 have been arrested and taken to Israel for questioning.

Speaking to Sky Arabic, Fox and NBC, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "They have taken billions of dollars. Instead of building kindergartens with the money, they're building tunnels, concrete tunnels to blow up our kindergartens. I can tell you that we opened up a hospital, a field hospital, a humanitarian field hospital on the edge of Gaza, and Hamas doesn't let the people come there. They're hiding rockets in hospitals, they're hiding arms in hospitals, they're shooting from hospitals. So they just don't care. I agreed to three different calls for ceasefires. We kept them even though Hamas kept firing and they violated every one of those ceasefire calls, the Egyptian ceasefire, the U.N. ceasefire, and the Red Cross ceasefire. We kept them, they broke them. The goal is to restore quiet and security for the people of Israel for a significant period of time, and we'll take whatever action is necessary to achieve that goal."

Reports of another long-term humanitarian cease fire are coming from Arab sources, but Israel has not confirmed the reports. On other fronts in Israel, the IDF intercepted a shipment of weapons in the Dead Sea, which was sent from unknown operatives in Jordan to Palestinian terrorists, a military source said.

At 3:00 a.m., a Palestinian terrorist shot and severely injured a 25-year-old Israeli civilian in the West Bank. IDF Forces searched the area for the suspect, but so far, no arrests have been made.

Four rockets were fired from Gaza overnight, towards Be’er Sheva. One was intercepted by the Iron Dome and three hit open areas. Earlier in the evening, a rocket fired from Gaza hit an open area near Kafr Qasim in central Israel, nearly 100 km from Gaza.

In the past 24 hours, more than 139 rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel. At least 116 rockets hit Israel. 17 rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense systems. The IDF struck 150 terror targets in the Gaza Strip.

Since the start of Operation Protective Edge, over 2040 rockets and mortars were fired at Israel. Of them 1,570 hit Israel and 396 were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense systems. The IDF has targeted over 2,924 terror targets with ground, naval and aerial capabilities.

Rocket siren sounds in London as 1000s attend pro-Israel rally (video)

Boy holding sign during pro-Israel rally
By: Hydar Tomar

(Scroll down for video) A rocket siren sounded in London, England, for the first time since World War 2, The Zionist Federation of Great Britain said.

On Sunday, High Street Kensington was filled with blue and white flags as thousands of pro-Israel supporters came out to show their support for the Jewish state.

Organized at extreme short notice by the Zionist Federation as a counter rally to the recent anti-Israel demonstrations, the solidarity rally was backed by over 60 organizations from across the political and religious spectrum, both Jewish and Christian.

The event emphasized solidarity with Israel during Operation Protective Edge, the current military campaign to halt rocket fire from Gaza.

Among the sea of flags were also hundreds of specially printed placards and banners denouncing Hamas, the radical jihadi organization that has triggered the latest round of violence.

With an expected turnout of a couple of thousand, the stage and sound system were set up opposite the Israeli Embassy, with one side of the street cordoned off especially for the rally.

However, as the day progressed it became clear that the audience was going to be much larger than anticipated, with people traveling from across the country to attend.

The estimated crowd of over 5,000 were joined by several community leaders, who defended Israel’s actions as a justified response to indiscriminate rocket attacks, while also expressing sympathy with innocent civilians on both sides of the conflict.

Repeatedly, they placed the blame on Hamas for not only trying to kill as many Israelis as possibly, but also trying to maximize deaths on the Palestinian side.

The need for the cessation of rockets being fired into Israel was another common theme, with Louise Ellman, Labour MP for Liverpool Riverside, explaining that a ceasefire was impossible while Israelis were subjected to these attacks. The former mayor of Sderot, David Bouskila, noted that the Israeli town had been targeted by thousands of rockets in this fashion.

The infamous siren that warns of these incoming rockets was also played over the loudspeakers, with the crowd silently crouching on the ground to symbolize solidarity with the Israelis for whom this is a daily occurrence.

In between speakers, the audience were entertained with live music and singing, as well as flag-bearing taxis and motorbikes, courtesy of the combined effort of Jews on Bikes and Yids on Bikes.

HE Daniel Taub, the Israeli Ambassador, stated: “While Israel is under attack from Hamas rockets, drones and tunnels, it is so important to see this show of tremendous support here in London for the millions of Israelis, Jews and Arabs, who have to live in reach of bomb shelters, and for the defense forces who are risking their lives to protect them.”

Alan Aziz, ZF Director, stated: “Despite the short-notice, the pro-Israel community came out in strength today. While Israelis have become used to seeing the world ignoring the threats they face and jumping up to condemn for seeking to defend themselves, today thousands of people came out to show them that they are not alone.”
