A couple was devastated to discover that they are not only married lovers, but biological siblings.
The husband and wife, who have a child together, knew that they had similar backgrounds as they were both abandoned and were looking for their birth mothers.
However, they could never have imagined that they were looking for the same woman.
39-year-old Adriana, and her husband, Leandro, 37, of Brazil, have been together for seven years and have a 6-year-old daughter.
The couple, who declined to give their last name, spent many years trying to find their mothers, who were both named Maria.
Adriana had not seen her mother since she was one years old, when her mother left her to be raised by her father.
Meanwhile, Leandro, who works as a truck driver, was raised by his stepmother, who knew that his mother had abandoned him in his hometown of Sao Paulo, when he was 8 years old.
While Leandro remained in the city, Adriana left her hometown to work as a maid. She was married to another man for 15 years and had three children.
About ten years ago, after her marriage broke down, Adriana met Leandro. They soon fell in love and moved in together.
In an effort to find her mother, Adriana contacted a radio station in the city for help. Recently, her dream came true and the two spoke to each other live on the air.
During the interview, on Radio Globo's The Time Is Now program, which specializes in finding lost relatives, the mother revealed that she also had a son named Leandro.
Realizing that her husband is also her brother, an emotional Adriana said: “I cannot believe you're telling me this, Leandro is my husband.”
Adriana and Leandro, who never legally married, told Radio Globo that they will stay together despite the fact that they are actually siblings.
“Only death will separate us,” Adriana said. “Of course it would have been different if I knew all this before, but we did not know and we fell in love.”
The husband and wife both plan to have a relationship with their birth mother and hope to meet her soon.
