A bank employee was arrested on charges of theft for stealing cash from customer accounts to pay her bills, police in New York said.

Kings County District Attorney Kenneth P. Thompson, announced that a former Brooklyn bank teller has been charged with using her position to funnel more than $80,000 out of numerous customer accounts to pay her family’s bills.

District Attorney Thompson said: “Within just weeks of being hired as a teller, this defendant allegedly stole money from the bank accounts of customers to pay her own bills. Now she could face imprisonment for this major betrayal of trust.”

“This case was brought by my new Cybercrimes Unit, a team of prosecutors capable of fighting 21st-century crimes such as this defendant’s alleged computer-based thievery. The Unit focuses on fraud such as identity theft, hacking, e-scams and schemes relating to online payments. It will also assist investigations involving the seizure and analysis of emails and digital equipment,” Thompson said.

Thompson identified the defendant as Janese Ferguson, 27, of 146 Beach 59th Street in the Arverne section of Queens.

She was arraigned last night in Brooklyn Criminal Court on a complaint in which she is charged with second-degree grand larceny, second-degree forgery, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and first-degree identity theft.

She was released without bail. The defendant faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. District Attorney Thompson said that according to the complaint, Ferguson had been hired as a teller at the Signature Bank branch at 26 Court Street in Downtown Brooklyn.

Between December 2012 and April 2014, Ferguson allegedly made 58 unauthorized transactions from 13 different Signature Bank accounts totaling $80,235.38.

According to the complaint, Ferguson made the transactions—mostly electronic transfers--to benefit herself, her husband, Randell Ferguson, and her mother, Darlene Brown.

Some of the unauthorized transactions included money transfers to pay Ferguson’s student loan bills and her mother’s credit card bills, and to make Western Union wire transfers in Randell Ferguson’s name.

According to the complaint, Ferguson also allegedly created counterfeit checks using Signature Bank clients’ accounts and routing numbers, and used the checks to make payments to collection agencies on behalf of her husband.

An Israeli soldier was injured after being shot by gunfire from Syria, rescue workers in Israel said.

The IDF soldier was injured on Monday night, while patrolling the border area in the Golan Heights.

The soldier was shot in the leg while heavy fighting was reported in nearby Quneitra, Syria. The soldier was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In August, an Israeli soldier was hospitalized after being wounded from a rocket that was shot from Syria into Israel, the Tazpit News Agency reported. The Israeli officer was stationed in the Golan Heights, when he was injured on Wednesday morning, by stray fire coming from Syria.

Shortly before 12:00 p.m., the IDF officer serving in an observation post in the area was injured by mortar fire. The officer was evacuated to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, where he was reported to be in moderate condition.

(Scroll down for video) Israel and the United States carried out a test on a new missile defense system designed to shoot down long range missiles, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

The Israel Missile Defense Organization and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency conducted an intercept test of the Arrow 2 interceptor missile on Tuesday morning.

The test, which took place over the Mediterranean Sea, oversaw the capabilities of the Arrow 2, the latest version of the air defense system designed to stop long-range missile threats, alongside the Iron Dome.

“An Arrow 2 missile was launched and performed its flight sequence as planned. The results are being analyzed by program engineers,” the Israel Defense Ministry released in a statement.

A senior official at the Ministry of Defense stated that a Rafael-produced Sparrow missile had been fired from the Mediterranean Sea at Israel, and the system detected and successfully intercepted the missile. “At the correct time, it fired an Arrow 2 interceptor,” the official said.

Israeli media reported that Ashdod residents witnessed the test operation, which simulated a rocket attack from Iran on southern Israel.

In January, the Defense Ministry together with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency held successful trial of the Arrow 3 anti-ballistic missile system, aimed to intercept missiles outside the earth’s atmosphere.

According to designers, the Arrow 3, which will be completed in 2016, would be able to shoot down incoming Iranian rockets over Iraq, way before they reached Israeli or Jordanian-controlled airspace.

The primary contractor for the integration and the development of the Arrow Weapon System is the Israel Aerospace Industries, in conjunction with Boeing, Elta, and Elbit-Elisra.

A New York town was slapped with a lawsuit after they allegedly prevented Satmar Jews from living among them, according to court documents filed in New York.

Hasidic Jews seeking to build and operate at least 396 units and a private religious school in Bloomingburg, filed the lawsuit on Monday.

They are seeking $25 million for religious discrimination, accusing town officials of conspiring to block a massive influx of Satmar Hasidic families to the small village of approximately 420 inhabitants.

The village is part of the town of Mamakating, which is also one of the defendants being accused of anti-Semitism.

"The people and the city are trying to use their political power, economic pressures, zoning laws, and sheer intimidation to prevent a certain type of people from joining their community," the lawsuit alleges.

"This kind of intolerance may sound like the Civil Rights era in the South. It is currently developing in a municipality just 75 miles from New York City," the lawsuit also alleges.

Town officials said that they voted to approve a new gated community of 125 luxury homes with a golf course, tennis courts and swimming pools that village residents could use.

However, the original developer sold the property, and 396 apartment units were built. “So they told us that a resort will be built, and then changed their plan once they got the approval,” an official said.

Wuppertal Police announced that they are cracking down on radical Islamists, who have patrolled local bars and casinos.

The group is trying to enforce aspects of strict Islamic law. Officers detained the group of 11 men on Wednesday. Some wore orange vests bearing the words "Sharia Police," in violation of the law.

The group has been confronting youth in drinking establishments and urged them to refrain from activities that are considered unholy in Islam.

Police said that talks are underway with local Islamic leaders to address the situation.

However, the Shariah Police remained defiant, writing on their Facebook page that people should be more outraged about children buying illegal drugs than with efforts to stop them.

The police presence in the city center has been strengthened and they have urged citizens to report sightings of the group. Meanwhile, the Sharia Police has vowed to expand its activities throughout Germany.

(Scroll down for video) A judge is on the wrong side of the law after he hit a bus full of people and fled the scene.

Judge Dean L. Wilson of Perry County, Ohio, got into a car accident while drunk and was arrested after leading police on a high speed chase.

Judge Wilson was charged with a DUI. Interestingly, Wilson is well known in his community for being tough on drunk drivers.

In an attempt to cut down on drunk driving, the judge set up a “court room” in local schools where he carries out judicial processes for drunk driving cases so that students see that their are consequences to their actions, and that people who drive drunk may hurt others and will be prosecuted.

However, on Sunday night, Wilson was driving home and crashed his Mercedes-Benz into a bus. He continued to drive away from the scene.

He became involved in a high-speed chase with police, which eventually ended when a police helicopter followed him and tracked down his vehicle.

The judge refused to take a breathalyzer test and therefore, his license was revoked. The judge is facing misdemeanor charges punishable by up to one year in jail.

(Scroll down for video) A young boy’s birthday party was ruined by a police officer who gave him a ticket.

The boy of Texas, went to look for treasures near Galveston beach with his mother.

Clayton Knight was having a nice time with his mother on his birthday before he was stopped by the police officer.

Clayton Knight and his mother, Amanda, were riding near the beach, which was empty with no other people around. The mother allowed her 7-year-old boy to drive a golf cart.

However, a police officer noticed to boy at the wheel and decided to give him a ticket. Amanda was shocked when the officer cited her son, as she thought she would be the one getting the ticket rather than her young child.

Clayton Knight said that he was scared when the officers ordered him to sign the ticket, which obligates him to go to court.

In Galveston, one must have a driver’s license in order to operate a golf cart in designated areas. However, Galveston Police Chief Henry Porretto, agrees that the mother should have gotten the ticket not the 7-year-old boy.

Porretto said that he will work with the judge and with the family to straighten out the matter.
