Israel’s Interior Ministry has announced that it will recognize Armenians as a separate nationality.

The Ministry of Interior signed an order that recognizes 200 Christian families originally from Armenia, as Armenians as opposed to Arabs on the national population registry.

Christians who identified themselves as Armenians led by Likud party officials, have been calling for recognition of an independent national identity.

The move is not just symbolic.

The new status will grant the group separate representation on the Advisory committee for Equal Opportunity in Employment Commission.

Earlier this month, Greece passed a law by a vote of 54 to 42, making it illegal to deny the Holocaust and genocides recognized by international courts or by the Greek Parliament.

The genocide of Pontian Greeks, the genocide of Asia Minor Greeks, and the Armenian genocide, fall under the new law. Those who violate the law could be fined up to 30,000 euros (1 euro = $1.29) and up to three years in prison.

An Orthodox Jewish man was attacked by an anti-Semitic man in broad daylight while walking in midtown Manhattan, jpupdates.com reported.

The young man of the Flatbush neighborhood, said that he was the victim of a possible hate crime on Wednesday, while walking in New York City.

The incident unfolded on Second Avenue and East 14th Street, when a man approached him around 3:30 p.m. and said: "I f***ing hate you. I should punch you in the mouth because you are a Jew."

The victim immediately called the New York Police Department, to report the incident. The local police station notified the NYPD Hate Crime Task Force Unit.

On Sunday, an 11-year-old boy who was on his way to the Satmar school, was beaten.

The boy arrived at school crying and shaken, and told his teacher that he was attacked by a stranger who yelled anti-Jewish epithets.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m., a vehicle stopped at the entrance of the Belz school and the driver asked one of the students for directions.

The Republic of Belarus honors late Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon with photo exhibition in museum (video)

Ariel Sharon exhibition in Belarus
By: Anav Silverman

(Scroll down for video) A small European country decided to memorialize late Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, with a photo exhibition in a museum, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

The memorial event honoring Sharon took place on Monday, in Minsk, at the National History Museum of Belarus, from where Sharon’s parents immigrated to the Jewish State.

The event was held as part of the Limmud FSU Belarus festival, a festival of Jewish learning, held last week in Vitebsk, which drew over 600 young Jews, mostly professionals 20 to 40 years old.

The memorial for Israel’s eleventh prime minister was held in collaboration with the Government of Belarus, the Embassy of Israel, and the local Jewish community with the participation of Sharon's son Gilad, and close aide Israel Maimon, who served as his Cabinet Secretary.

Marit Danon, the head secretary in Prime Minister Sharon’s office, curated the Sharon photo exhibition, which included photos from the Israel Defense Forces, the Israeli government archives and his personal collections. A press conference and meeting with local officials also took place following the event.

"I am very excited to stand here at the opening of the exhibition on the life of my father," said Gilad Sharon at the opening ceremony.

"My father's life is integrated in Israel's history, and I hope this beautiful exhibition will be another step in deepening the relationship between Israel and Diaspora Jews, and maybe some of them will go to Israel," he said.

“It is a great honor for Limmud FSU to host this new exhibition, which is on display here in Belarus, about one of the great leaders of the State of Israel who was born to parents from this country last century,” said Chaim Chesler, founder of Limmud FSU.

“Ariel Sharon never forgot the legacy of his family and put in great effort to learn Russian and his family’s history. This is why we’ve decided to have this event and exhibition during our Limmud FSU Belarus Festival, to show a wonderful example of a great leader whose roots are here, though his life and activities were in Israel,” he said.

Sharon himself was born in Kfar Malal, an agricultural moshav in central Israel in 1928. He is not the only Israeli with Belarusian roots to be honored in Belarus.

Last week, a ceremony honoring Eliezer Ben Yehuda, the father of modern Hebrew, was held 100 miles north of Minsk in Glubokoe, where Ben Yehuda studied Jewish studies.

Launched during the second Jewish learning conference in Belarus of Limmud FSU, the ceremony featured the unveiling of a plaque by Ben Yehuda’s great-grandson Gil Hovav, an Israeli celebrity chef. Ben Yehuda immigrated to the land of Israel in 1881, where he worked to revive and modernize the Hebrew language.

“This emphasis helps Jewish and non-Jewish Belorussians connect to Israel and the Jewish people,” Chaim Chesler told the JTA, remarking on Limmud FSU’s priority to underline the cultural links between Israel and Belarus.

The Jewish community in Belarus in the third largest in the former Soviet Union, with Minsk serving as the largest center with 20,000 Jews living in the capital and the rest spread out in the country's smaller cities and towns.

Other Israelis with Belarusian roots include former prime ministers Menachem Begin and Yitzhak Shamir, as well as former presidents Chaim Weizmann and Shimon Peres.

In a unique ruling, a man was ordered to pay a woman for taking her virginity.

The man of China, was sentenced to pay the woman $5,000 compensation for violating her right to be a virgin because he pretended to be single when they slept together.

The man, who was identified as Li, was fined because he deceived the woman by falsely claiming to being a bachelor.

At sentencing in Pudon, Shanghai, the man also ordered to write his younger lover a letter of apology for his actions.

The couple met online five years ago, but did not start a relationship until last September, when Li told the woman, who was identified as Chen, that he was single.

The court did not believe Li's claim that the couple did not had a sexual relationship, and found him guilty of misleading Chen.

The woman claimed that the two slept together for the first time when they took a trip to Singapore earlier this year.

The woman thought that the two would continue the relationship once they got home, but Li broke off the relationship shortly after their return to China, and refused to meet with Chen who repeatedly attempted to talk to him.

Frustrated by the lack of contact, Chen went to his home in Shanghai, and was shocked to find a woman at the home. The woman said that she has been married to Li for several years.

The court agreed that being a virgin was a human right and should be protected. The judge said that Li “violated her virginity by deception.”

Cheng asked the court for $80,000 compensation. However, the court awarded her $5,000 and an apology letter from the man.

Joe panhandling
By: Hydar Tomar

A young homeless man is struggling to survive, but still has a way with the ladies.

26-year-old Joe, who is originally from Massachusetts, spends his day panhandling in New York City.

Joe spends some nights on cardboard boxes on the streets of Manhattan, but he manages to find different women to sleep with on many nights.

Throughout the day, Joe focuses on making money to support his drinking and drug habits as well as on his hygiene.

He makes about $150 a day panhandling. He further saves money by going to different stores to get free samples of deodorant, hair gel and other personal care products. He also spends some of what he earns from begging to maintain his appearance.

Although Joe has only four different outfits, he charms women into inviting him into their homes for several nights at a time so he can shower and have good food.

“New York is incredible and has 8 million people so you can sleep with different women whenever you want,” he said.

Joe admits that he flirts with random women, complements them on their looks and tells them things that will make them feel good so that he can go home with them.

He will even tell women that he loves them and that he wants to marry them so that he can be with them for several nights.

Some women treat him to a good meal and drinks. He said that sometimes when he sleeps on the streets, women come up to him, wake him and say: “you're passed out on the sidewalk, you need to go home,” to which he replies: “I am home.”

Joe said that he was kicked out of his mother's house after she found his stash of drugs in his room, and he has been homeless ever since.

The three men were accused for kidnapping, torture and sexual mutilation of a marijuana dispensary owner while trying to steal his money.

One of the suspects, 35-year-old Hossein Nayeri, fled to Iran and was arrested while traveling to Spain. He was finally extradited and returned to the United States, and will face charges in California.

All defendants of Santa Ana, have been arrested for the kidnapping of the marijuana dispensary owner, who allegedly buried a large amount of cash in the desert.

Defendant Hossein Nayeri, 34, was on the run for over two years, but was finally arrested.

All defendants were charged with two felony counts of kidnapping for ransom and one felony count each of aggravated mayhem, torture, and first degree residential burglary with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury.

All defendants are being held without bail and face a maximum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.

The incident began when the victim took several marijuana growers to Las Vegas, Nevada, for an extravagant and expensive weekend. Handley was amongst the growers who participated in the trip.

After the trip, Handley allegedly told the other men that the victim was extremely wealthy. The defendants are accused of devising a plan to kidnap and rob the victim.

Weeks prior to the kidnapping, the defendants used video surveillance to monitor the victim’s home and followed him as he made frequent trips to the desert.

The victim drove to the desert to discuss a possible investment deal, but the defendants wrongly believed that the victim was driving to the desert to bury large amounts of cash.

One day, the suspects entered the victim’s home with the intent to kidnap and rob him. Once inside, they kidnapped the victim and his girlfriend.

They placed the victims in a van, ransacked his home and took a large amount of cash. The defendants then drove the victims to the desert near the area where they believed he was hiding money.

They tortured the man by burning him with a blowtorch. When they did not find money in the desert, the defendants cut off his private parts and poured bleach on the victim in an effort to destroy any DNA evidence.

They dumped both victims on the side of the road. A police officer found them. The man spent an extensive period of time at a hospital recovering from his injuries.
