(Scroll down for video) 125 parents of Lone Soldiers will spend the upcoming Jewish holidays with their children thanks to free trips sponsored in part by El Al Israel Airlines, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

In a special initiative to enable families to spend the Jewish New Year together, 21 airplanes are flying into Israel from 10 different international locations.

Flights are taking off from New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Moscow, Paris, London, Brussels, and Amsterdam.

On Thursday, a flight from Moscow with the first group of parents landed in Israel.

El Al Israel Airlines, the Israel Hotel Association (IHA), the Association for the Wellbeing of Israel's Soldiers (AWIS), and the IDF's Manpower Directorate are all part of the unique project to reunite parents with their sons and daughters who took part in the recent Operation Protective Edge against Hamas.

An event of this scope has never taken place before as 125 parents to 77 soldiers will arrive in Israel in the upcoming few days.

"We initiated this project in order to show our appreciation to the Lone Soldiers, who bravely decided to leave their home country and protect Israel," said David Maimon, Chief Executive Officer of El Al Israel Airlines, which provided the parents of Lone Soldiers with the free flights.

At Ben Gurion Airport on Thursday, the Lone Soldiers waited eagerly for their parents, who are also receiving free accommodation for a five-night stay in hotels that are part of the Israel Hotel Association (IHA).

One mother of a Lone Soldier, Dovrat Ifis, commented that the most meaningful part of the trip was to spend the Jewish New Year with her son.

“The best part is that we get to celebrate Rosh Hashanah together. I can’t put into words how happy I am right now. My heart is pounding with excitement,” she stated.

Ifis is also very grateful for the generous initiative. “The time is just right and our soldiers truly deserve it - the time has come to hug them and spend quality family time with them.”

Eli Gonen, President of the Israel Hotel Association, noted that his organization has been helping Lone Soldiers for many years, offering accommodation especially during the Jewish holidays, including Rosh Hashanah and Passover.

“We are supporting the army and soldiers throughout the year,” Gonen stated. “We are opening our hotels and our hearts to the Lone Soldiers and their families, providing them with a feeling of home and comfort during the holidays.”

The Chairman of the Association of the Well-being of Israel’s Soldiers (AWIS), Avigdor Kahalani, also added that Lone Soldiers will always be supported. "The Lone Soldiers are not alone – AWIS, El Al, the Israel Hotel Association and the IDF's Manpower Directorate are there to embrace them after Operation Protective Edge, and just before the New Year, we managed to bring them their loved ones from home.”

World’s oldest Hebrew prayer book finally returns to Jerusalem after 1,200 years (video)

1,200-year-old Hebrew prayer book

(Scroll down for video) The world’s oldest prayer book that was probably written in Israel, finally returned home after 1,200 years, the Tazpit News Agency reported.

It was a historical moment at Jerusalem’s Bible Lands Museum on Thursday night, as the world’s oldest known Jewish prayer book, also known as siddur, was displayed for the first time to the general public with leading Jewish and Christian figures present.

The siddur, which is 1,200 years old, belongs to Steve Green of Oklahoma, who owns the largest private collection of biblical artifacts in the world, with over 44,000 rare texts and biblically-related objects.

This prayer book will be displayed for one month in the Book of Books exhibit, the internationally-acclaimed exhibition which displays the most important biblical texts and traces the history of the Bible and the dissemination of the monotheistic faith.

On display are original fragments from the Septuagint, the earliest New Testament Scriptures, exquisite illuminated manuscripts, rare fragments from the Cairo Geniza and original pages from the Gutenberg Bible.

“We are honored to have the prayer book in our Book of Books exhibition. The book is evidence of a thriving and creative community and cultural life 1,200 years ago,” said Amanda Weiss, the Director of the Bible Lands Museum. “We want to give the world the opportunity to see this remarkable piece of document.”

The 50-page ancient prayer book, still with its original binding and cover, is written in Hebrew and contains three main parts; the morning service, liturgical poems and the Haggadah read at the Passover Seder.

It dates back to the first half of the Ninth Century AD during the period of the Babylonian Geonim, the spiritual leaders of the Jewish community in the early medieval era.

It was during this period that Amram Gaon, one of the leading Geonim, wrote an orderly liturgy for the first time to be used for both the synagogue and home. The siddur originates from the Middle East and has undergone sophisticated carbon dating methods to validate its age.

“Scholars have yet to fully research the prayer book,” added Weiss, noting that there are experts around the world studying high-quality digitized versions of the siddur.

Green purchased the siddur over a year and a half ago for his Oklahoma-based collection, but the prayer book will eventually be permanently hosted at the Museum of the Bible, which is currently under construction in Washington D.C.

Before the prayer book was purchased by Green, it was originally in the hands of a private family for many generations according to Weiss.

“I know that the Jewish people have a great appreciation for this prayer book,” Green told the Tazpit News Agency. “It’s been through many travels and I’m glad that it has made its way here to Jerusalem,” he added.

Green, who is Chairman of the Museum of the Bible, stated that he grew up in a ‘Bible-loving family’ of Christian ministers and wants to cultivate appreciation for the Bible worldwide.

Among those present at the unveiling of the prayer book at the Bible Lands Museum on Thursday night, were Speaker of the Knesset, MK Yuli Edelstein and Father Gabriel Nadaf, a Nazareth-based Greek Orthodox priest, who has worked to foster closer ties between Jewish and Christian communities in Israel.

“I’m proud to be here this evening, because together we are witnessing our shared history and faith, and experiencing history anew from eyes that appreciate the past,” Nadaf told the Tazpit News Agency. “It’s a very moving moment and it comes from the heart, to see where we originally come from.”

"Not only are we the 'People of the Book', we are the people of the same book, the same language and the same prayers," said Speaker Edelstein. "These are the exact same words millions of Jews say every morning and this is the best example of Jewish continuity."

The pharmaceutical executive allegedly pumped a deadly dose of 11 drugs into his system, an expert testified in court.

The child, Jude Mirra, who is autistic, was found dead next to 54-year-old Gigi Jordan.

Man found not guilty of rape because he suffers from disorder that causes him to unknowingly have sex while asleep

A man was found not guilty of rape despite the fact that he raped a woman, according to a court ruling in Sweden.

A doctor told the court that the defendant suffers from “sexsomnia,” which is a disorder that causes people to unknowingly have sex while they are asleep.

“The 26-year-old had no intention of having sex,” the Appeals Court in Sundsvall ruled. The court overturned his two-year prison sentence he had received in a lower court.

“The defendant was in a state of sleepiness, and was unaware of what was happening," the court said in its ruling.

A specialist in sleep disorders told the court that the accused could have suffered from sexsomnia, a state in which a person can have sex while asleep.

The theory was supported by the former partner of the man. Sexsomnia is a condition closely related to sleepwalking. Those affected by sexsomnia are not aware of their actions, specialists say.
