A company said that thanks to the recent surge of reported Ebola cases they have managed to sell out the entire stock of Ebola plush toys.
Giantmicrobes Inc., which manufactures a line of plush toys based on viruses and other microscopic organisms, sells a regular size stuffed Ebola for just $9.95 and a giant toy for $29.95.
"Since its discovery in 1976, Ebola has become the T. Rex of microbes," the manufacturer based in Stamford, Connecticut, said.
With the latest Ebola outbreak, which has killed more than 4,500 people, mostly in West Africa, customers have snatched up the toy, which looks like half of a pretzel.
Giantmicrobes lists the World Health Organization as one of its largest customers, together with pharmaceutical companies and the American Red Cross.
The company also sells anthrax, botulism, cholera, and dengue fever plush toys.
