(Scroll down for video) A New York City restaurant owner said that he was shocked to received a large fine after placing an advertisement on Craigslist seeking a female employee.

Giuseppe Bruno, who owns the Upper East Side restaurant Sistina, said that Commission on Human Rights is looking for business owners who inadvertently use sexist language in job advertisements.

Bruno was fined $5,000 after placing his advertisement on Craigslist seeking a reliable, friendly and organized coat check.

The commission said that the advertisement violated the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits gender language in job advertisements.

Bruno’s assistant Lara Kineavy, who posted the advertisement on the Internet, said that she received two responses by email from a male and a female, who were actually working undercover for the commission.

According to the complaint, the restaurant only opened the email of the female respondent.

“In New York City, it is illegal under the Human Rights Law to express a preference for one protected class over another in an employment advertisement. In the Sistina case, Commissioner testers spotted an allegedly discriminatory ad that requested a specific gender to fill a position. The Commission filed a complaint and the case is currently under investigation. It is a normal practice for the Commission to try to settle cases at every stage of the process,” the Commission on Human Rights said.

The first incident occurred around four weeks ago, when a man knocked on a door in Synan Court in Wurruk, claiming there was something wrong with his car.

The other two incidents occurred at an address in Loughnan Court and Bennison Drive. During each incident, the man either stated there was something wrong with his car or asked to use the bathroom.

He has also been seen pleasuring himself on one occasion and offered money for one of the women to enter the bathroom with him.

The man is described as 20 years old, Caucasian, around 5 feet 9 inches tall, medium build, short brown hair and brown eyes. Police have released an image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

A man was arrested, charged and convicted of assault after attacking his girlfriend with a hammer after she invited him to her home for drinks, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

Now, the man of Birmingham, who works as a cleaner, has been jailed for 10 years for attacking the young woman he befriended at her Winson Green home.

44-year-old Seyd Selym appeared before the Birmingham Crown Court, where he admitted wounding his 25-year-old friend at her Aberdeen Street home.

The man met his victim around a month before the attack, and on the day he assaulted her they happened to bump into each other in Handsworth.

They returned to her home to have a drink together before Selym attacked her with a claw hammer in the bedroom of the home.

The woman recalled how she asked to share a drink when Selym asked her if she wanted a fight. Seconds later, she blacked out after suffering a blow to the head.

She awoke with a serious head injury, before drifting in and out of consciousness for around 24 hours.

“This was a violent and vicious attack, during which Selym repeatedly rained blows on his friend’s head with a hammer. She sustained a fractured skull and a fractured finger,” Detective Sara Caldwell said.

The woman was eventually able to seek medical attention two days after the attack. Her friend took her to a hospital after allowing her to sleep off what he assumed to be a hangover.

It was only when she arrived at the hospital that the true extent of her serious injuries became known. Selym was later charged with wounding, and appeared before the Birmingham Crown Court where he entered a guilty plea.

Members of a criminal gang were arrested on charges of fraud after deliberately smashing cars to defraud insurance companies, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

Now, four men were sentenced to prison at the Croydon Crown Court for their roles in the fraudulent insurance claims totaling more than £290,000 ($455,000).

The defendants were found guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud against the insurance industry, following a three year investigation.

Malik Manzoor Ahmad, 54, of Strasburg Road, Battersea, SW11, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

His son, Malik Mazhar Ahmad, 26, of Harbut Road, Wandsworth, SW18, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

Jamal Akbar, 40, of Blagdon Road, New Malden, KT3, was sentenced to two years in prison. Mashood Ahmed, 30, of Stanley Avenue, Bristol, was sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to carry out 250 hours unpaid work.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service Roads and Transport Policing Command Operation Catcher team commenced an investigation into the activities of “Star Accident Claims Management” based in Southfields, Wandsworth, SW18.

The investigation identified that the four defendants took part in induced collisions as well as the processing of claims relating to induced collisions committed by unknown parties.

The defendants falsified documentation in relation to claimants and made up details of false witnesses to add weight to the claims submitted by the company.

The investigation took a sample of twenty six claims, valued at £290,961, which amounted to a financial loss to insurance companies of £102,984 ($161,600) in paid claims.

Collisions were vastly exaggerated in relation to the injuries sustained and damage caused, and were found to have been supported by false testimony of false witnesses.

Some even had claims for passengers who were not present at the time of the collision. Many of the collisions were classic induced collisions involving decoy vehicles on roundabouts or at junctions.

Signatures on some of the claims were found to be forged with claimants denying any knowledge of the claims or having been told the claims had been discontinued.

(Scroll down for video) Three teens were arrested, charged and convicted in connection with the murder of a man who confronted them for spitting at his girlfriend, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

According to the police investigation, the three teenagers attacked the man with an ax and a knife.

Paul Thrower, 46, suffered fatal injuries after the group attacked him as he pursued them for verbally abusing his girlfriend.

Kiro Halliburton, 18, of Tollgate Drive, Hayes, was found guilty of murder.

Zakariya Subeir, 18, of Rockingham Road, Uxbridge, and Mahdi Osman, 18, of Hoskins Close, Hayes, were found guilty of manslaughter.

A 17-year-old boy of Hayes, was found not guilty of murder.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Simon Deefholts of the Homicide and Major Crime Command said: "Thrower was undoubtedly angry that day and rushed to confront the youths who had verbally abused his partner.

"Two took refuge behind a door, but it took some time for Thrower to reach them, and they could have easily made their escape across the open roof area behind them.

"Instead, they were handed at least one potentially lethal weapon by their friend on the ground and barricaded a door, waiting until Thrower burst through. Video showed them apparently calm and preparing for the attack.

"They immediately attacked him, causing devastating injuries. I am pleased that the jury has convicted not only the two directly involved in the shocking attack on Thrower, but also the youth who helped arm them."

The incident began around 7:30 p.m., when Thrower's girlfriend was returning from nearby shops to their ground floor apartment in St. Dunstans Close, Hayes.

She was verbally abused by the group of youths. She told them to leave, but was spat at and had a drink thrown at her. She returned home and told her partner what had happened. Furious, Thrower ran out of the apartment after them.

Halliburton and Subeir saw him approaching, and fled into a partially enclosed area behind a door near a garbage chute. They held the door closed, although there was an open roof area behind them.

After several minutes, Thrower succeeded in kicking through a glass panel in the door and crawled towards them. He was then struck three times with an ax and stabbed ten times with at least one knife.

Halliburton and Subeir fled the scene. Thrower staggered to the top of the stairs where he collapsed. The London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended, but Thrower died at St. Paddington's Hospital.

(Scroll down for video) A man was murdered because he looked similar to a man who slashed the face of a gang member, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

Now, four men have been sentenced at the Old Bailey, in connection with the murder of 34-year-old Christopher Foster, who was killed in a failed revenge attack.

Aytach Lisani, 33, of Sir Francis Way, Brentwood, previously pleaded guilty to murder at the same court. He was sentenced to life in prison and ordered to serve a minimum term of 23 years.

Billy Dove, 30, of Setchell Way, SE1, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy and was sentenced to six years and six months in prison.

Ali Lisani, 38, of Nevendon Road, Basildon, Essex, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy, was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison.

Rocky Djelal, 34, of Layard Square, SE16, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and was sentenced to six years in prison.

The four men had previously appeared at the Old Bailey, along with Mohammed Aalamani, 30, of Quay View Apartments, Arden Crescent, E14, and Ricky Huggins, 31, of Dunlop Place, SE16.

Aalamani and Huggins, were both acquitted of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

Joanna Stevens, 43, of Frean Street, SE16, and Michael Gore, 55, of Ramsfort House, Manor Estate, SE16, were acquitted of perverting the course of justice.

Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector John Sandlin of the Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC), said: "Chris Foster was an entirely innocent party just out for a drink that night. His only crime was looking similar to the person the defendants were hunting down when they seized the opportunity to attack the man they thought was responsible for an earlier incident, but they were wrong, and Chris Foster, a hard-working father, paid with his life."

According to the police investigation, Chris Foster was standing with a friend in an alleyway outside the St. Christopher's Inn pub on Borough High Street.

The two were enjoying a drink outside after an evening of visiting area pubs with friends.

A group of men, including some of the defendants, suddenly appeared. Their faces were hidden by hoods and scarves, and at least one had a bat and another had a knife.

Chris was stabbed once from behind in the back. He managed to get inside the pub where he collapsed on the floor. He died 90 minutes later, at the Royal London Hospital.

Chris was a father of a four-year-old girl.

The court heard the defendants had mistaken Chris for another man, who was in the same area that evening and was suspected of slashing the face of Lisani’s cousin.

Brian Meehan
By: Chan Yuan

(Scroll down for video) A lawyer was arrested on charges indecent assault after allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl in his office, prosecutors in Pennsylvania said.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office charged 56-year-old Brian Meehan of Berwyn, with Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, Statutory Sexual Assault, Unlawful Contact with a Minor, Corrupting the Morals of a Minor, Indecent Assault, Promoting Prostitution of a Minor, and Patronizing Prostitutes for sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl.

The arrest of Meehan, who is married and has a daughter, comes after a lengthy grand jury and Police Special Victims Unit (SVU) investigation.

SVU Detectives began investigating a Germantown area man and woman accused of forcing girls into prostitution, one of whom was a 14-year-old girl.

That girl told police that she had been recruited by the couple to have sex with men for money, and that they would beat her and threaten to kill her if she tried to leave them.

The couple later admitted to police that this young girl was one of five girls that were being prostituted out of their W. Harvey Street house.

The couple was arrested and charged with Human Trafficking, Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, Statutory Sexual Assault, Unlawful Contact with a Minor, Corrupting the Morals of a Minor, Indecent Assault, and Promoting Prostitution of a Minor.

The 14-year-old victim in this case was taken on multiple “out-calls” to engage in prostitution. An “out-call” is when a girl is taken to a person’s home or place of business to engage in sexual activity with a “john.”

The 14-year-old victim in this case was taken to “out-calls” at the defendant’s place of employment - a Center City law firm at One Penn Center - several times where he engaged in sex with her for money.

The 14-year-old victim was able to describe Meehan’s office and the interactions she had with him in the office. She also testified that Meehan told her that he knew that she was only 14 years old, that he liked younger girls, and that the youngest girl he had sex with was a 12 year old.

SVU detectives executed a search of Meehan’s 1617 JFK Boulevard office and recovered forensic materials consistent with sexual acts occurring in there.

Colleran picked up the dog and took the animal to a place in Portsmouth. She later put the dog up for sale on Craigslist.

Joshua King, the real owner of the dog named Nikita, was devastated when the dog escaped from his home on Saturday morning.

King said that his friend saw the original advertisement for the “dog found” on Craigslist. That night, the friend contacted the man who published it, saying he knew the owner.

However, the man told the friend of King, that someone had already claimed the dog, King said.

The man handed over the number of the woman who claimed the dog. King said that the number for the woman matched the number of the person posting a dog for sale.

King called the woman and set up a time to meet her in order to buy the dog.

He then called the police to be with him at the meeting. King said that police spoke with the woman while he took his dog back.

Colleran has been charged with obtaining property under false pretenses. She is currently being held at the Chesapeake Correctional Center .

According to court documents, Colleran told an officer that she tried to sell the dog to get money for her legal fees in another case. Colleran has pending a charge of unlawful wounding in Portsmouth.

Court administrator caught stealing bail money

Steven R. Martorano
By: Wayne Morin

A court administrator was arrested on charges of theft after allegedly stealing bail money, prosecutors in Pennsylvania said.

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Public Corruption Task Force (PCTF) charged 42-year-old Steven R. Martorano, a former First Judicial District Bail Acceptance Unit Supervisor, with theft, receiving stolen property and tampering with public records for stealing over $150,000 in bail money from the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility (CFCF).

Martorano turned himself in to PCTF detectives and he is currently being processed by police.

The arrest comes as a result of a lengthy grand jury investigation. Grand Jurors found that 13 bank deposit bags with bail money totaling $155,440 disappeared from the First Judicial District’s Bail Acceptance Unit located at the CFCF.

Records related to those funds, Brinks logbooks and the manual bail binder-government records maintained by the First Judicial District, also disappeared.

Extensive evidence presented to the grand jury established that Steven Martorano stole this money, and intentionally and unlawfully removed and concealed those records.

Martorano was accused of regularly instructed his cashiers not to seal their money bags when there was a problem detected with their work for that day, such as a discrepancy between their count of the money and the total amount indicated in their computerized drawer.

Martorano told the cashiers to wrap a rubber band around the bag and its contents, claiming that he would recount the money and try to resolve their issues for them.

Martorano was the sole supervisor in charge of the Bail Acceptance Unit at the CFCF, and was trained in the protocol for the handling of the bags of money.

On several occasions, Martorano was observed with money deposit bags inside his home in South Philadelphia, located in the 3200 block of Chaucer Street.

Martorano owned various businesses while he was employed with the FJD, a helicopter business, operating under the names of Bella Choppers and Independence Helicopter, a pizza shop, Is-A-Bella Pizza, and a company called Bella Investment Properties.

Based upon the evidence in this case members of the 26th Philadelphia County Investigating Grand Jury recommend that Martorano be charged with 13 counts of theft by unlawful taking, 13 counts of receiving stolen property and 3 counts of tampering with public records or information.

Man kills stepdaughter one week after marrying her mother

Pascal Kaufmann
By: Mahesh Sarin

(Scroll down for video) A man from Germany, is behind bars after killing his stepdaughter in the United States.

3-year-old Charlie Brame of Florida, was rushed to a hospital, where doctors found signs of “aggravated child abuse with severe brain trauma and sexual abuse,” according to the Orlando Police Department.

The child died of her injuries at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Her stepfather, 19-year-old Pascal Kaufmann, was arrested for her injuries and was charged with child neglect and rape, police said.

Kaufmann moved to the United States, and married the mother of Brame a week before the incident, according to a police report.

Ironically, the girl’s mother left her biological father, claiming he was abusive. He was arrested but the charges against him were dropped.

On Saturday, Kaufmann took care of Brame while her mother was at work, according to his arrest report.

Kaufmann told police that the young girl was injured by falling off a bed. When she did not move, he borrowed a neighbor's cell phone and called his wife.

When paramedics arrived at their home in Orlando, they found the girl struggling to breathe with bruises covering her back and head, police said.

The injuries were not consistent with a fall, but rather of a blunt trauma to the back of the skull, police said.

Brame's biological father had been concerned about Kaufmann, and begged the girl’s mother not leave her alone with him, the police report stated.

According to the biological father, Brame said that Kaufmann had spanked her. “He told the child’s mother that Kaufmann should never touch his daughter again or he would kill him,” according to the police report.

Kaufmann could face life in prison depending on the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of Brame’s death.

He is being held without bail.
