A man was arrested on charges of murder after killing his wife and daughter, police in Australia said.

The Auckland High Court convicted Ishrat Malik of murdering his wife, Farhat Rana Malik, and his daughter Sidra Noor Malik, after pleading guilty to murder.

Malik had claimed that he suffers from mental health issues and cannot be held responsible for the murders. However, three mental health professionals found Malik competent to stand trial.

One doctor however, concluded that Malik had a narcissistic personality disorder, meaning that he would not be able to take part in the trial, but he agreed that the defendant was exaggerating his mental health issues.

Moore ruled that Malik’s behavior was an attempt to avoid taking responsibility for the murder of his wife and daughter.

Justice Moore found that if Malik did not participate in the judicial process it was because he chose not to, and not because of any mental health condition.

The court was told that Malik called police to his home before the murder. During the call Malik yelled: "murder, murder, murder," before hanging up the phone.

When police arrived at the scene, they found his wife and his adult daughter stabbed to death.

(Scroll down for video) A woman was fooled into believing that her former boyfriend wanted to rekindle their old relationship, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

39-year-old David Hoyle repeatedly stabbed 43-year-old Rebecca Bamber, after the couple had spent the night together at her home on Mersey Road in Widnes.

A neighbor called the police when he heard screams coming from the house and then saw Bamber at her window covered in blood and mouthing “call the police.”

The Chester Crown Court heard that the neighbor called the police and went to the back of the house, where he saw Hoyle of Bradford, in the garden with Bamber.

She had collapsed on the ground and he was standing over her with a knife. The neighbor went back to his own house to find a weapon.

The neighbor was on the phone with the police when he went back to the garden, but Hoyle had already left. As he went back outside, he saw Hoyle driving away from the scene and smiling at him as he passed.

The neighbor gave police the car’s registration number and then went back into the house to see if anyone else was there.

A woman from a nearby shop came over to see what was happening, and the neighbor asked her to press some material onto Bamber's wounds to stop the blood.

Police said that the neighbor was clearly distressed, breathing heavily and telling Bamber, “it's all right Becky, I'm here, the police are on their way, it's all right darling, stay awake.”

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died.

Police caught up with Hoyle near to the Runcorn Bridge, but he rammed their vehicles and moved off onto the M56, where he was again stopped and Tasered.

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but the Crown Prosecution Service insisted that he be tried for murder.

Hoyle claims that he hadn't meant to kill her despite the fact that he stabbed her 11 times with two different knives and three broken bottles.

The jury found Hoyle guilty of murder. The judge sentenced Hoyle to serve a minimum of 25 years in prison before he can be considered for parole.

(Scroll down for video) The New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) began a new campaign to stop men from spreading their legs while riding on trains, according to posters uploaded to the Internet.

Officials at the MTA, said that they are planning a public education campaign designed to convince men to hold their legs together in order to occupy less space.

One poster reads: “Dude. Stop the spread please.”

One male passenger however, protested the new rules. “So now I will have to cross my legs like a woman?” The man protested.

Shattering fish tank saves home from fire started by candle

The fish tank after the fire
By: Wayne Morin

A family who forgot to put out a candle before going to sleep, was saved from the fire that it caused after their fish tank shattered.

Mr. and Mrs. Whitehall of Warrington, England, often have candles burning around their home. They said that part of their bedtime routine is to blew out the candles.

However, one night, they accidentally missed one of the candles.

The candle burned down and hot wax dripped onto a plastic garland, which fell onto the floor and started a fire.

Luckily, the heat from the flames shattered the fish tank, sending 100 liters of water onto the floor, putting out most of the fire and waking Steve Whitehall and his wife.

They just needed a bit more water to completely put out the fire. Firefighters were called to make sure that the home was safe.

“We often have candles burning around the house, and we are usually very careful about making sure that they are all out before we go to bed or go out. Unfortunately, we missed one candle last night, and I cannot believe the damage that has been caused from it. Please everyone, take great care of burning candles,” Steve Whitehall said.

The family lost 13 fish in the blaze. Fortunately, two survived in the couple of centimeters of water left in the tank.

“I dread to think what would have happened if the sound of the breaking tank hadn't woken and alerted us to the fire,” Whitehall added.

A thief who was awaiting sentencing, brought laughter to the courtroom by farting loudly.

31-year-old Aaron Scott Morris of the United Kingdom, pleaded guilty to stealing food from a store.

He received a suspended sentence at the time, but Morris had broken the terms of his probation and was therefore brought before the court to be sentenced to jail.

While the judges had retired to the chambers before sentencing Morris to jail for shoplifting meat and coffee from a shop, he farted loudly and the quiet courtroom erupted with laughter.

The courtroom began to resemble a schoolyard as lawyers and other legal representatives laughed at the farting.

An apology from the defendant appeared to do little to stop the laughter, which stunned onlookers.

Order was restored once the judges returned to the courtroom. Morris was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison.

A man is grateful to have survived with his two young sons in the wilderness for 10 days.

The father was stranded with his two young children in the Australian wilderness after taking a wrong turn.

Steven Van Lonkhuyzen rationed food for his 5 and 7-year-old sons, and survived on rainwater, which he collected in order to stay alive.

After Van Lonkhuyzen took the wrong turn, his four-wheel drive vehicle got stuck in mud while he was trying to drive from his home in Brisbane to Cairns, according to Queensland Police Acting Superintendent Mick Bianchi.

Farmer Tom Wagner finally found the family in the remote Expedition National Park after 10 days, when they were down to their last few slices of bread.

“They were pretty hungry by the time I got to them, and they were very happy to see me,” Wagner said.

The boys were taken Taroom Hospital, where they were said to be in stable condition.

While in the wilderness, Van Lonkhuyzen tried to attract attention by placing high visibility elements around their vehicle and lighting fires, according to officer Bianchi.

“The boys have lost some weight and are a bit emaciated, but will be nursed back to health in a few days,” Bianchi said.

There are not many people in the area as it is the off-season for the Expedition National Park, where weather conditions are extreme this time of year.

Heather Cagle
By: Wayne Morin

(Scroll down for video) A teacher drove with 11 students to Walmart, to buy some snacks.

Now, the teacher lost her job despite begging for forgiveness and promising to never take students out of school grounds without permission.

The middle school teacher of Oklahoma, has been fired after school officials said she put the students in the trunk of her car to run an errand.

Heather Cagle, who taught at the Wells Middle School in Catoosa, allowed 11 students to ride in her 5-passenger Honda Accord, for a trip to Walmart.

Seven of the children piled into the back seat, two sat in front and two 12-year-old girls were locked in the trunk. Cagle did not get permission from their parents or school officials to take the children to the store.

“It was a terrible mistake,” she told the school board. “I did not want to hurt anyone. I just wanted to do something nice,” she said.

Cagle did not go far with her students. She drove to the Walmart store just behind the middle school. The two buildings reportedly share a parking lot.

A lawyer for the Catoosa Public Schools, called the act “mental abuse.” However, Cagle's lawyer said that the teacher simply violated a seatbelt law, and did not force any of the children into her car.

However, the board voted to fire the teacher, who has worked for the school since 2005.

About 50 people showed up in support of Cagle at the school hearing, but the board voted 4 to 1 for her dismissal.
