A recently engaged woman was shot and killed by her friend during a hunting trip.

Samantha Moore, 25, of South Carolina, was hunting with her fiance and two other couples in Lake City, near Florence.

As they were trailing a deer, one of her friends tripped and fell, causing her gun to discharge, according to Capt. Robert McCullough of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

The bullet hit Moore around 6:30 p.m. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The Florence County Coroner’s Office ruled the death an accident and no charges have been filed in the case.

Samantha Moore was recently engaged to Ryann Jernigan, the man she had been dating since the eighth grade, according to her cousin Misty Moore.

Samantha Moore, who worked as a surgical technician, enjoyed hunting and fishing with her fiance, Misty Moore said.

Samantha Moore also served as a therapist for Misty Moore’s autistic son for four years.

Friends set up a Facebook memorial page, posting photos and good memories with Samantha Moore noting her positive and easygoing nature.

On the Facebook page her fiance wrote: “We all have to follow our dreams and never give up! We can’t let our dreams die with our bodies because life is too short to wait. We are here one minute and gone the next! We never know when our name is going to be called and we will be gone from the place we call home!

“God has a plan for all of us, and we have to trust in him and put all our faith in him because he will never lead us astray. I love you all for the support you all have given to me, but most of all I’m thankful for the love God has for us all!

“Everything happens for a reason and we have to accept that God gives and he takes away. Sometimes it’s small things he takes away and sometimes it’s someone you love more than anything!

“Just remember that life is short and fragile, and love those that are still here with you all because they could be gone tomorrow! I love you all, and may God bless you all!”
