A woman was arrested on charges of attempted murder after allegedly trying to strangle her baby because she felt worn out from raising him, police in Japan said.
Kawasaki Police said that they have arrested 37-year-old Aya Shoji, after being accused of choking her 6-month-old son until he passed out.
According to police, the suspect choked her son Yuma on Friday morning. The suspect’s 38-year-old husband found the child in a state of cardiac arrest and called for help.
The child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition. During questioning, Shoji told police that she wanted to kill her son because she felt worn out from raising him.
In June, a mother was arrested after an attempted murder-suicide.
Kimberlynn Bolanos, 21, of Chicago, Illinois, was arrested after she allegedly stabbed her 5-month-old son to death because she was afraid Child Services would to take him away from her.
According to police, Bolanos checked into the Diplomat Hotel with her baby Isaac and her boyfriend, who is the father of the baby, to spend the night.
The two allegedly smoked marijuana and drank alcohol before going to bed. When the boyfriend awoke the next morning, he saw Bolanos go into the shower with the baby.
When the shower took much longer the usual, he tried calling his girlfriend, but when she did not answer and he was unable to open the door, he ran to the front desk of the hotel and asked for help.
The receptionist called police. When emergency services arrived, they were forced to use an ax to break the bathroom door down. Inside the bathroom, they discovered a gruesome scene.
Investigators said Bolanos stabbed her baby to death. The baby had suffered 21 stab wounds to the head and eight stab wounds to the chest.
The neck of the baby was also was cut. Bolanos reportedly tried to stab herself in the abdomen in a murder-suicide attempt, according to court documents.
The baby was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:44 a.m. Bolanos was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she is being treated for her injuries.
When detectives questioned Bolanos, she allegedly told them that she was afraid that Child Services would take her baby because of her crack habit.
Bolanos has been charged with first-degree murder. She is expected to be arraigned and booked into jail as soon as she is discharged from the hospital.
