(Scroll down for video) Five people were arrested on charges of rape after allegedly abducting a young woman from the site of the Buddha tree and gang raped for three weeks, police in India said.
Kolkata Police said that so far, they have five suspects in connection with the gang rape of the 22-year-old student of Japan, who came to the country on a Buddhist pilgrimage.
Police said that they are still searching for additional suspects who allegedly held the victim hostage for nearly three weeks in a home near Bodh Gaya.
After being held hostage for three weeks, the victim managed to escape and arrived in Kolkata, where she filed a complaint with the police.
According to the police investigation, the tourist was led by one of the suspects to the tree, where it is said that Gautama Buddha had attained enlightenment.
Once there, he was joined by four others, who took her into captivity. The suspects also managed to steal $1,200 from the victim by forcing her to withdraw cash from an ATM.
