The incident occurred sometime before 10:00 p.m. on Monday, in their parents’ living room. 11-year-old Nicole Kornegay assisted in the crime.

Officials learned of the death after a police officer in nearby White Springs, spotted the two girls and stopped to speak with them.
After the older girl confessed to the shooting, the officer went to the home and found the 16-year-old boy dead.
The parents of children, Keith Kornegay, 37 and Misty Kornegay, 33, were out of town at the time of the shooting, but were later arrested on charges of child neglect for failing to supervise their children.
A three-year-old girl was found in the house. She was left alone in the home after her sisters left. The 3-year-old was taken into custody by the Department of Children and Families, the sheriff’s office said.
